Etherjets and Advanced Labs? Could this actually work?
« on: May 02, 2010, 06:37:33 pm »
Anyone try grabbing an uncaptured advanced lab with etherjets yet and dragging it back to your own territory?  ;D I want to know if this works.

Assuming you could make it past the systems defenders and didn't destroy it by accident with the etherjets regular weaponry, what would happen once you got it into one of your own systems? Would it flip over to captured? Or remain AI owned? Or is an Advanced Lab too big?  :-\

TOO BIG

seriously , the major problem is getting the Adv labs to go though the Worm holes , which is impossible

AFAIK, sci labs can go through wormholes, and this is actually an interesting idea, though i refuse to use etherjets till there's a control node that makes them drag ships back to thsir FRD point when they are in said mode (too much micro otherwise)

Ya, I agree that the micro for this would be quite hard and I'm still not sure whether or not the Etherjet would end up destroying the lab before they made it back because I don't know if you can tell it to use only its tractor beams without firing on its target.  :-\

A steal Advanced Sci Lab Control Node would be awesome. ;D

Unfortunately, someone else thought of this in the past, and it was nerfed. ;)  The advanced research stations are immune to tractor beams for just this reason. :)

Aww, shucks. Guess I should have known I wouldn't have been the first.  :)

I even found a thread talking about it just now, lol.

can... ....

You steal an ARS with etherjets?

<.<
>.>

Haha!  Good call.  For a brief, glorious time you could - you could just tow it back to a friendly planet, trash your command station there, and build a new one, which would trip the capture switch again.  x4k caught on though...

I'd be happy with other nerfs (like speed, health, weapon damage, and/or cost + buildtime), but since that's their primary purpose (dragging stuff back to something that's strong), i won't use it as it's really micro intensive :(

EJ are very useful defensively too

if enemies break past your defence planet into your undefended ones, a few hundred etherjets can pick them up and drag them back to your turret balls

well i done it by acident with the x right click stuff and 1 ship had the science lab. i havent been able to try it since but it well worth it as long x right click works only problem might be it could slowly loses health if the ship tuging it can still shoot while tractoring.
AI War - even the smallest units can make all the difference no matter how weak they are still quite capable of taking the hits. if it can Kill and receive damage then it worth its time other wise if it cant kill and cant take the damage for the higher surviving ships then it is worthless.
