How does scoring work in AI War
« on: March 30, 2011, 08:11:11 am »
I was thinking to start a new games with the spirecraft and reading the minor definition I saw it reduce your scoring and wondered If I can tweak other parameter of the difficulty to compensate (for ex.: faster AI threat progression) but then I realize that I don't really understand how the scoring system work and tried to look for reference on the wiki but found none. Do you guys know what the major element of the scoring system?

The major element of the scoring system is that it's easiest to not care about your score :)

You can enable Spirecraft with no score reduction if you pick Spirecraft - Hard (instead of Medium or Easy).

The devs won't tell you how the score works, because they don't want people to pay to much attention to their score, but just play the game and have fun with it (I believe it was something like that at least).
Though, looking at this point of view, one can wonder why they put achievs in the game :P

Oh, I wouldn't mind telling you how the scoring works, if I knew ;)  Chris wrote it, long ago.

Main thing is that you get points for building ships and destroying enemy ships, I think ;)

If the system scoring is not so important (or even not clear), why make the spirecraft and the golem  easy and moderate factions use the system as an offset? It seem to me like a contracdiction.

I wanted to use the moderate faction to try out the spirecraft but I didn't want to have the ennemy run around with them as in the hard difficulty (like Golem prior to the minor faction introduction). That why I wanted to raise other difficulty element and I was hoping to use the scoring system as a benchmark. I'll guess I'll increase the AI progression a bit and go enjoy the game.

Thanks for your reply,

If you like getting a good score, I know of a way to get a good 'raw score'.

Take a galaxy with 120 planets, take all planets, with pretty much every minor faction enabled (on -hard- where it applies), and some AI-plots as well like for instance Hybrids. Got me ranking 7th on the Steam leaderboards :D

Remember to start with 16 planets as well, that way the enemy throws 16x as many ships at you with each wave and you get 16x as many ships to build.  Make it difficulty 10, max out their positive handicap, build as many spire cities as you can (snake map will work best for this, I think), take all enemy planets, complete the entire Fallen Spire campaign before you take the final AI homeworld, and sit your fleet on its doorstep to intercept as many AI ships as you can before the Fallen Spire fleet gets there.

Oh, also play against two Raid Engine AI types.

I think that should about maximize your score if you have all minor factions and AI plots on.
