How do you untangle the map?
« on: February 17, 2012, 08:19:56 pm »
I've never been able to figure that out.  Am I right to understand it means you can move the planets around on the galaxy map?  Is it allowed on all map types?  I pretty much always play realistic.

That feature was in there prior to 4.0, but got removed during that porting and IIRC hasn't been added back yet.

I added it back in 5.011, instructions:

Quote
* Added "Galaxy Layout" item to top-level context menu (when showing the galaxy map).  Clicking it shows these options:
** "Official Layout" - Switches your galaxy view to the official layout, meaning the map as actually generated.
** "My Layout" - Switches your galaxy view to your alternate layout.  If you have not made any changes, this will look like the official layout.
*** While looking at your alternate layout you can move a planet around by holding shift, left clicking the planet, and dragging it aroud while holding the left mouse button.
** "Player 1 Layout" - Switches your galaxy view to this player's alternate layout.
*** And 7 others just like it for players 2 through 8.

Never knew about this feature. So once you've selected a different layout, how do you move the planets around?

I cannot find the "Galaxy Layout" option on the Galaxy Map  :-\.  I have all expansions installed, running version 5.032--think that's the most recent.  Can someone help me find it--either tell me where to look in the menu or post a screenshot?

Edit: nvm, found it in another thread.  Thanks!

For other people who've failed to find it, can you link it here, perhaps?

Edit: found it in "Various Things" thread:

More !
- How do you best defend against spire devourer ships ?
- How again can you "manually" alter the galaxy setup, i.e. move systems ?
1) Maws, right? One possibility: you can try to pop them ASAP with Bomber starships or Plasma Siege starships.
2) Alt-right click on the galaxy map and switch to "Galaxy Layout ->My Layout". Shift-left-click and drag the planets.

I'll go ahead and post the steps, as many will look for that information here:
1.  Alt+click on empty space while in the Galaxy Map.  This will bring up the Context Menu, a dropdown menu.
2.  Click on "Galaxy Layout".
3.  Click "My Layout".

If you see a green/red flashing "Your Alternate Galaxy Layout" on the bottom right hand corner of the screen, then you are ready to untangle!  As others have mentioned, hold shift and drag planets to relocate them as desired.  This makes complex maps much easier to comprehend.

Enjoy  :)

Make sure you have nothing selected in any of the planetary views when you do this.  I do it all the time and still forget to 'unselect' everything.  If you don't, you get the Alt-Listing for whatever you've selected, not the galaxy map.
... and then we'll have cake.

Which reminds me of this issue, which would make it easier to tell when that was the case.
