Help with a little threat problem:
« on: November 18, 2012, 05:18:25 am »
Hello. I've got a bit of a problem with a threatball outside my front door in the game I'm playing at the moment- it's the dregs of a Fallen Spire exo, and it doesn't want to attack. I haven't got my first city yet, so Spire-wise options are limited and it's a little fierce:
On ultra low caps, 8 homeworlds:
~100 of each triangle, assorted mks.
80 Zenith repair frigates.
~100 starships
2 armoured golems
1 artillery golem
2 black widow golems
2 near-dead regen golems
~300 guardians, assorted mks.
19 spire siege towers, mks 2-3
13 spire implosion artilleries
13 mostly dead spirecraft shieldbearers.
Ion in system
~500 special forces + ~1000 local threat fleetships 2 jumps away

My assets:
All nebulas done, 3 champions, mk1 of Sniper, Autocannon, Stealth Battleship, Raptor, MLRS, Shield Bearer, Zenith Electric Bomber
mk1-3 Tackle Drone Launcher, and my fortress planet they're next too could obliterate them easily.

Any ideas on how to do this without many re-fleets?- because I'm going to have to do this at least a couple more times before my spirefleet starts getting strong enough to do it.

Hurling the nebula fleet was not encouraging about the number of refleets i'll need. It'll work eventually since it's not yet being replenished by continual exos, but that won't work for further tries.
Help?

(Oh, and no warheads. 10/10.)

Could you post a save? That really helps more than any amount of text description.

Under the textbox when posting, click Additional Options ==> Attach ==> Browse (select your save).

Just from the text, you are describing a perfect use case for warheads. Not nukes, just a couple lightning IIIs to severly damage or kill the guardians/starships. If you are playing FS, you should be able to deal with the AIP.

If you remain unwilling to do that, I would recommend using riot starships+champion shields+shield bearers to grab the fleetships back to the chop-shop, then send some cloaked unit way away from the threatball, and pounce with your whole fleet when the threat strings itself out trying to pursue.

If you really feel like cranking out the cheese, use a combination of snipers, transports, and cloaker starships. Once the snipers fire a couple volleys from the system edge, retreat them into the cloaked transports, wait for the threat to return to its original position, repeat.

All this is assuming you don't have golems, spirecraft, or k.

Edit: Thanks, I'll look into it, should post within 1/2 an hour with some semblance of a solution.

Edit2: You have martyrs (in raw xampite form). Use them. You may want to follow up with rams, but those guardians are the main strength of the threatball, so your fleet should take care of the golems by itself.

I may have to bill you for a melted computer.

If warheads can't solve it, use more warheads.

martyrs always work very well ^^ Whenever my fleet can't handle a wave or threat, send in the martyrs and watch the fireworks.
