Taking out an AI home planets without losing a single ship
« on: February 12, 2011, 11:22:33 pm »
I have, once again, discovered an ever-so-exploitable bug. I'm quite proud of myself  ^^

Anyone else have super strategies that you think no one else knows? Or at least have not read about anywhere else?

And you're posting it on the bug tracker as we speak, right?  ;)

I guess this one is known, probably even intended. Take a cap of SC Dreadnoughts and Battleship, pay the AI a visit .. instant dead for the AI without loses. (3 Dreadnoughts and 6 Battleship chew through anything, add 12 Cruisers for even more glory.)  8)

Haha! Go shredders. Zenith reserves have become a Priority One target for me now, as every cap of shredders I get makes me happy. There too much fun not to use  :o :o :o ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, if I've got them, I'll always toss a few into a fleet for laughs. I love putting them on FRD mode and then taking more direct control of my fleet during invasions of AI worlds. They aren't too shabby on the defense either, but Plasma Cutter immunities can foul that up. so pay attention to what is coming your way if you want to make them part of your defense strategy. Also, make sure you've got plenty of surplus energy or at least "prune" your stock of Shredders every now and then. Sudden brownouts from massive Shredder population explosions during a large CPA can be... inconvenient and embarrassing.

I like to leave them as easy guards on planets when I want to take everything else away for an assault somewhere. Sure, they may not be able to defend the planet by themselves, but they beef up the firepower numbers enough that the AI doesn't just send everything over from the planet next door as soon as I move my fleet out.

And they can stall for a long time too, if you can get the AI Intrested in them. Often I dont mind sending 1500 of them to their deaths as long as I have 10 or so floating in low power at my homeworld, cause I can rebuild them from stock. This strategy does me well because they make good cover if you have ships like Autocannons, laser gatlings, infiltrators or raid starhips. Let the battle get rolling then assassinate your target. Very useful strategically and just as a raw over power weapon.
