leech starships and free roaming defender mode

Is there a way to have ships captured by leech starships to automatically go into free roaming defender mode or attack mode?

it is really nice that i can capture them but when i am attacking an enemy planet i gain their ships and they are just sitting there.

It is really annoying selecting them and telling them to attack.

Presently there is not a way to do that, although different behaviors for captured ships have been discussed.  There are many who believe that it is more useful to actually have the ships retreat, or get picked up by mobile repair stations, so that they can be fully healed before joining in the attack.  It's definitely something we're considering from a few angles for the future.
