Elecrtic Shuttles
« on: February 01, 2010, 04:57:02 am »
I got an ongoing game, as my extra unit I got laser gatlings, but the AIs got electric shuttles. I am somewhat boxed in by 2 Mk IV worlds, but I got 2 Mk III worlds in a line I am working on taking down to "get out of the box".

This has taken time however as i have had to send numerous waves to the AI to get a few planets, and I have now had two rebellions of human settlements that have made AIP go up a lot without me really having progressed much myself. Why oh why do they rebel so far away behind big Mk IV planets with Ion cannons I can only wonder, cause I can not help em (yet) :P

I have started to produce som long range frigates, but the el shuttles do basically cuddly hug  my regular fleet once it comes close. (The Mk III shuttels and above is evil to ecpecsially my gatlings).

Any good advice on tactic to handle teh shuttles?

Do you have the latest prelease?  Shuttles have gotten major nerfs recently, as they were a bit op.

Interesting. I was running 3.023 last time.  I see a new one has come out, but alas have not had the time to test it.

If they changed recently my strategy might need to be changed :).

I honestly can't remember if 3.023 was before or after the latest nerf to them.  If it was after, then I don't know what to tell you, haven't played enough myself with all the recent patching madness.

I'm playing my second games of AI war and I have to say that electric shuttles, when controlled by the AI, are quite ruthless even with the new patch.

It require me more ressource to conquer a planet then I had to spend in my previous games where the AI did not have the electric shuttle. I'm not sure how to handle them anymore, any suggestion?

I find the below methods work for me.

1.  Spider Turrets (Target Shuttles)

2.  Dreadnoughts (Sniper, Sentinel Frigate, Zenith Bomard)

3.  Raider, Raptor retreating from the shuttles staying just outta range

4.  Send in a StarShip to trigger attacks, follow up with a large force of fighters, bombers, etc... (essentially anything with 100k+ health and a bit of speed.

buy like an unit not weak against it maby space tanks due to high sheilding send 1 as electric shuttles gain there bulk of there power with large groups. ai isnt able to stop the units from attacking your space tank. thus meaning it takes damage and depending on ammnt of ES it would die. but you be able to quickly go in and take them out as they might shoot 1 by 1 if that the case yust send half away then back agian if it all them at once retreate then send 1 unit into the middle of it again.
AI War - even the smallest units can make all the difference no matter how weak they are still quite capable of taking the hits. if it can Kill and receive damage then it worth its time other wise if it cant kill and cant take the damage for the higher surviving ships then it is worthless.
