Do the AIs Share Warp Gates?

I've got a game with a Shield Ninny and a One-Way Doormaster as my opponents. Shield Ninny supposedly never launches waves, but I saw a wave come from one of its planets. So did the Doormaster go to the Ninny and say 'hey buddy, mind if I launch some waves on the squishy humans through that warp gate? You're not using it for anything' or have I possibly found a bug? I should have paid attention to the color of the ships to see which AI they actually belonged to, but I didn't think of it at the time.

Yep, they share warp gates.  Otherwise you wind up with one AI always launching waves to ? ? ? when only one warp gate borders your planets, right?

Ah yes that makes sense. I though I had lucked out since this is a Mk4 planet only one hop away from my homeworld and I know I'm going to have to leave it live for a while until I get the resources to roll over it. I thought being a non-wave type would save me from harassment from that direction, but of course not! They also seem to get very touchy when I try to send in anything to gate raid them... wiping out my raiders and then coming back through the wormhole to say hello. I'll just wall that wormhole off with turrets and hope they don't notice me then...

I at one point was actually under the assumption you could prevent 1 wave from being called, as long as only 1 AI has a gate on a bordering planet ...  ::)
(Simply because only 1 wave was called any instance, and after some initial waves I never found two waves at the same time.)
