Destroying AI Homeworlds
« on: January 24, 2010, 04:31:29 pm »
So, on one of my games, one AI Homeworld was relatively close to our starting location, so my partner and I went ahead and wiped it out, knowing we needed the resources, and there were enough data centers nearby to make up the AI Progress.

Was this a good idea, and what are the consequences of defeating one AI?

One thing to think about is even though you may have enough data centers to cover ~+100 progress, when setting the floor progress the game takes into account the total progress, before any reductions. Eventually, the total progress (before reductions) will be high enough that the floor (lowest) AI progress is raised, and at that point if your effective progress (total - reduction) is calculated to be lower then the floor, it will remain at the value of the floor. If this does not sound familiar, i suggest you read the tool-tip by hovering over the AI Progress meter, and also the tool-tip for SuperTerminals.

Hope that helps!

The floor is never above about 100... Which basically means its virtually irrelevant. The AI goes up a mk level at ~230 (more for less than level 7 AIs, less for 7+)

i lie.

The total positive AI progress is relevant because the AI unlocks new ships at certain points.

Hey now, I've found the floor to be perfectly relevant at times :).  There is still a diff between ai progress of 1 and ai progress of 60 or so.

Because I seem to hardly notice the difference. Perhaps I am not looking in the right places :\

So, the +100 AIP is the only consequence of destroying an AI homeworld? It doesn't affect anything else?

well; You get a lot of resources from home planets.. Each guard post on a home planet costs a little AIP..

I Guess? I figured it would affect reinforcements, or AI Intellegence or something?
