Fighting a Dyson Sphere?
« on: June 29, 2010, 12:41:28 pm »
I found a planet with a superterminal, i really kind of need to use it at this point in the game (my AIP is really high right now, due to some dumb choices, and i am both homeworld's door step.), it also has some very nice fabricators, however there is a dyson sphere on the planet. Is there anyway i can fight off that bastard? My units won't seem to attack his gatling guns, so i am kind of at a loss here.

What can i do?

Well, it depends on what kind of gatlings he is producing.  If the planet is neutral, right now he's making gatlings that are friendly to you.  But as soon as you take it, he'll start churning out ones that will go attack your home planet.  The odds of a loss with that -- while trying to use a superterminal, no less -- are pretty high.  If you capture it just briefly, you should be able to get those fabricators.  If you don't capture it, but just clear the planet, then the dyson gatlings might help you out, instead (not against core ships, though).

Hes neutral right now, if i start throwing turrets down with a mobile builder, he wont aggro to the turrets right?

Btw. Why is the not make the golem un-invincable once the planet goes to neutral? Just you know if someone is really insane :)

He'll only get mad if you actually capture the planet. Leaving the planet neutral makes him your friend. If you want a huge challenge, I suggest enabling he avenger ai plot. :)

The game spawned a Mark V Factory and a Golem on a planet with a Dyson Sphere, so I basically can't get either unless there's some way to destroy them.. which it doesn't look like there is. It looks like at most the - was it Bulletproof? - ships can fight them to a total stalemate with neither ship being able to harm each other. And that is not taking into account the gatlings they spawn.

Darnit.

Restarting game, never using Dyson Spheres again.

You actually can capture the planet really briefly, then destroy your command station, and then the gatlings will protect your new stuff instead of killing them.  Just be ready for a few that try to kill it right at first (so protect the factory and golem), and you're all set.  After that point the dyson sphere is the best friend you ever had.

You might want to try that scenario after all, it's not a loss for you at all, it's a gain if you do it right. :)

Oh. I assumed they wouldn't stop until they destroyed all of my buildings, command center or no. D'oh!
