Deep, desperate raid to save a human colony.
« on: February 20, 2010, 12:23:31 am »
Heyo,

So, in my current campaign, I have about 15 planets and a very good economy (including 1 advanced factory).

However, the AI progress is about 470 right now, thanks to a failed human rebel colony and now another one has popped up.

So, I made 14 transports for my fleet and escorted them the 4 hops to the planet in question, losing 400ish planes&raptors plus my 3 fleetships in the process.  However, my 1400 ship fleet made it unharmed.  I was expecting an easy victory, as this system was unalerted.

Boy, was I wrong.  It seems that the AI is constantly shifting fleets through this system.  Those fleets, plus their propensity for electric shuttles (grarrr) whittle down my fleet.  Eventually, they were overwhelmed, but not before taking out the command station and a few guard posts.

As I type, my second fleet + transports is almost complete [yay for 10 space docks].  I will clear one more system, which I had previously 'neutered', so as to get a better launch point.  I should also have 1 or 2 EMP missiles somewhere.

What would you guys recommend I do differently, this second time around?  I have only 40 minutes XD

Check out the latest version, 3.043 -- it has some upgrades to transports that will make getting there tons easier, for one thing.

That's my current progress.  As you can see, I have a ways to go.  ALthough, these newly buffed transports should make it much easier for me to roam.

Ok,
So heres my plan, based on the image above.
Once I take and secure Oriwivin I will rebuild my fleet and send it to Jeju, stopping in Juyo to blow up a datacenter.  Then I will proceed down the pipe conquering Bopoios, Rinanju, Eliiishlo, Isva, Tireje.  This should net me several datacenters (Yeini has like 8), an advanced factory, and another adv research facility.  Thus boosting my fleet significantly.

Once I reache Zorce with my fleet, I will send in several armored warheads to various guardposts.  Then I will send in an EMP, clear out the wormhole defenders with my fleet, followed by a few lightning warheads for any appropriate targets.

If all goes well, I will then transport my fleet to Parumdem, rinse and repeat.

On the home front, I will be fortifying Zachalin and Zarrew.  And creating a defense fleet of all my mkI ships + 3 fleetships.  I will also have a nuke, just in case.

  Good plan?

I wouldn't conquer all those planets on the way.  Stopping to kill the datacenters does not require you take the planet.  But, I am not even sure I'd stop for them, I'd try and get my transports as far along that path as possible and deal with the rebel colony first, then come back for the datacenters.  But that's me, and I don't have a full context for everything that is going on in your game.
