Title: Cloaker Starship
Post by: ColonelBlimp on October 15, 2015, 11:41:56 AM
Hi,

I'm a newbie to this game and have been using a Cloaker Startship (MKII) with a Spire Starship (MKIII) as an AI planet clearing team.  Now, there are times when the Spire starship de-cloaks - often, but not always, after firing for the first time on an AI ship.  Yet, there are times when the Spire starship will never be de-cloaked (while within range of the Cloaker starship) and I can use the team to easily clear a planet

Can anyone give me some guidance as to what might cause a Spire starship, which is in close proximity to a Cloaker starship, to become uncloaked while firing upon AI hardware (ships, Tachyon Sentinals, Guard Posts, etc.)?

if i am understanding you correctly, you are asking why your ship de-cloaks when it fires? the wiki states here (https://arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Cloaking_and_Tachyon_Beams%28Stealth%29) "Cloaks are not perfect however and when a ship attacks a target, its cloak drops for several seconds so it can be targeted as any other ship during this time."

Thanks for the help - I seem to have missed this info from the wiki.

Many thanks for the help.

A ship (sometimes) staying cloaked when firing? This is a bug. A nasty one. And using it is a bug abuse.
You are violating a gameplay rule. Please surrender and stand still while the special forces process you to harmless metal pieces.

 :P
Sorry 'bout that. Seriously, this should be mantis-reported.

I've noticed this behavior on rare occasion myself and i think it has something to do with how the spire beam weapon operates. Since it "fires" over a duration and i presume the cloak "is attacking" check only occurs at the start of the beam. Well oddities occur. Not a huge problem imo spire SS delivered to firing range on post is highly effective no matter your delivery vessel.

Similar overall result to an unload from AT fire load again cycle. Probably more resources and time then an AT cycle with inferior efficiency. Or Mobile Space Dock pulsing.
