Can I get my turrets to attack trains?
« on: May 28, 2015, 05:26:03 pm »
Pretty simple. When my turrets are idle, I'd like them to shoot at the trains that pass through my base.... would be nice to have my bottlenecks cripple them yknow?

'sides... when they're just sitting there, you'd think they would shoot at least a little bit/set off electric AOE turrets instead of just letting them pass through unscathed....

Boy I sure would love this.  Your turrets attack SOME train cars independently, but only ones with low health/armor that are urgent to destroy.  It would be really nice to tell all my turrets to prioritize tractor/widow trains over anti-neutrino, too, but that's just me.

Yar. In long-form games, chipping away at trains would be valid if the attacks were automated.

Do keep in mind that trains get rebuilt--I'm pretty sure, anyway.  It's not a very long term help, but it sure would be nice if you could lure trains down a long corridor and have them never get to the other end.

Yeah, but eliminating them as they try to pass through my territory can help avoid kidnappings that lead to unscheduled deepstrikes...

This is a popular idea.  See this post on Mantis: 0010154: CTRL auto-target trains

I've made a note there about this thread.

Otherwise, the "best" way I found to kill trains:
- keep a station deep inside your territory, preferably where nothing from the AI will ever go to.
- put a lot of turrets around said train station.
- enable "Alert when # enemy presents" set as 1 at said planet.

It's not perfect but fastest way of killing trains yet without actively giving chase to them.

I also tend to keep as a reserve all "parasite" captures, and some all flagships, and unused golems (for repairs or just because I don't need them) at that planet too, so they pop trains faster.
