Stragetic Question Regarding OMD
« on: August 08, 2014, 08:04:43 pm »
I have noticed an interesting obstructions in my recent neinzul play through.

You know those enclave and neinzul CC starships that are immune to cloaking? Well I can't sneak them past OMD especially true if the OMD is in range of all wormholes.

Transportation (normal and assault not looking at spire mining ones) will not work since this OMD is 6 jump deep behind enemy line and out of supply. How do you deal with them? I can put up other starships as smoke screen but expensive ones.

You will have to destroy or capture a planet closer to the planet with the OMD. Then you could put Raid Starships in an Assault Transport and destroy the OMD. You would probably lose 1 Raid Starships.
Another option is to go around the OMD planet.

Go around isn't an option since it was placed at a solar system next door to Murdoch on X layout map. It block the path to one of the AI's homeworld. I know I can kill it. However, I also would like to capture it intact for the same reason placement is great against AI.

I already took a strike force through and lost a champion (really? first shot was champion?!) and a single mark 1 neinzul CC. The fleet has a merc neinzul enclave which is at the moment deep behind the OMD. I already sneaked my replacement champion past the OMD but enclave/Neinzul CC can't cloak so.

I can't keep them behind the line either because they will just spawn reprisal waves after reprisal waves (neinzul drone do contribute to those apparently). Repairing will not be an issue since I have a MSD with them.

I don't think it is a good idea for me to pop AI command station at Murdoch just yet.

Wow I think I will roll back... I just lost my entire neinzul fleet on a solar system with dark vengeance/gravitric command station/mark 3 shield and four spire mk 3 shield guard post on the only exit. On the other hand good news look like I have relative plenty of adam asteroids I may considering using jumpship. Is loading easy fast to do?

I am bit worried about 20 second to "expire" timer on same mark as jumpship itself as that is new to me.

Edit: I, after I rollback to a save game before that deathtrap, manage to get my fleet back home while evading a Hunter/Killer with moderate losses. (2 mk 1 enclave, 1 mk 3 enclave, and 1 mk 2 Neinzul CC) But for long-term strikes I am thinking using some spire jumpship, last time I used them they were "loss some hp each time they jumped" model. Anything I need to know about them? On the plus side I manage to neuter most of that branch's solar systems except for the deathtrap gravitric with shield place and other hard to break mark four systems.

If you have snipers, they can be used to take out the OMD.

If you have supplies, sniper turrets can be used for this purpose.

Also if I remember correctly mass shielded riots starship work, with the OMD blowing up the shield one per one, that give enough time to close in and inflict a fiery death to the OMD.

Since you happens to have spirecraft enabled, the ship with One-shot/30 min can be a straightforward method to take it out.

Another method is mass transports with most of them empty. Fill a few with as many bombers as possess, use empty ones as distraction for both the OMD and AI ships on system while your filled transports will beeline for the OMD. This method can be rather expensive, but still cheaper than replacing an entire fleet of starships.

Finally, since you have champion you can use its shield ability to spam it when a OMD shot is incoming, thus blocking it. I don't remember if you can use the neinzul hull with radar jamming to close on the OMD.

Cloaker starships are also very good.
