Bombs are da Bomb

I think that the new Bombs are just the unit I have been looking for: a reasonably cheap method to clear those nasty IV wormholes which are loaded with the hated and despised Lightning III Turrets. Cheap and quick to build, just chuck a few 100 down a wormhole.

Yeah, I was thinking that they would be a nice substitute for Lightning Missiles when you get them, which after all cost AI Progress.  Glad you like them!

These sound similar to an idea that I was thinking of proposing for a long time (from some other fiction I like). But these sound like they will work quite nicely  ;D

Yes, it is cross-compatible, and in January it will be on sale through Steam (with an option for existing preorder customers to migrate, I suspect).

How does one use the "bombs"?  Do they need to be transported to a target wormhole?  Built in-system? Launched from the Galaxy Map?

He's referring to the new Zenith AutoBombs unit, which basically work like cutlasses or vampires, automatically seeking out targets within a certain range.  The AutoBombs detonate on impact and do area damage.  The current prereleases have a bug with the AutoBomb targeting when chasing moving targets, just to be warned, but that will be fixed before official release.  Pretty cool unit, though. :)

Autobombs are fully mobile ships. Basically, you send a few fighters into a wormhole to "distract" the lightning turrets, and then you send in a large bunch of autobombs to kill everything off around that wormhole. Cheap area damage.
Nerfer of EtherJets, Lightning Turrets, Parasites, Raiders, Low Automatic Progress and Deep Raids (to name the most important)

Z Auto bombers like realy good at the start of the game for those low power recon missions of destroying easy targets from 5 hops away or even more. low power stops them from killing them self stupidly and about all of them are used when you target a command station. :D
AI War - even the smallest units can make all the difference no matter how weak they are still quite capable of taking the hits. if it can Kill and receive damage then it worth its time other wise if it cant kill and cant take the damage for the higher surviving ships then it is worthless.

wait , how is it even possible to achieve and gain a Z autobomb in the first place? call me clueless and a dumbarse , but i just don't play with foreign unit-creation buildings that ain't in the original AI war(without the ZR extention)
