Some time ago I calculated the cost effectiveness of Turrets and Fortresses. I wanted to make similar calculations for Bombers and Heavy Bomber Starships to find out which ones I should unlock.. I wonder which are more cost effective in terms of knowledge.. I though I might as well post the results here so other can take advantage of them as well.

Conclusion: Heavy Bomber Starships are much more cost efficient. Bombers do almost twice as much damage as Heavy Bomber Starships so there's that. It seems to me that Heavy Bomber Starships are a better choice in general. But if you just want to dish out as much damage as possible then the Bombers are the better choice. Although Heavy Bomber Starships are much more tanky so if there's any resistance Heavy Bomber Starships will do more damage before they die. Also Heavy Bomber Starships do the same damage against all targets since they don't have attack multipliers. Bombers are a more niche option.
These numbers also explain why Starships are so dangerouse in waves/CPAs/Exos.

EDIT:
Plasma Siege Starship
Cap dps=Heavy Bomber Starship's cap dps*0,74
Cap health=Heavy Bomber Starship cap health*0,4545

Total dps per total knowledge at Mark IV: 4,995
Total health per total knowledge at Mark IV: 374,963

Total dps per total knowledge*Total health per total knowledge: 1872,940
Note that Plasma Siege Starships have quite a long range and they do AOE damage. It's that utility that actually makes them about as useful as Heavy Bomber Starships. They're for different purposes.

Bombers also enjoy a rather huge 6x multiplier against select hull types.  Heavy Bomber Starships don't get additional damage against anything.  This isn't an advantage for the starship, it's a disadvantage.  And the bonuses that bombers get are against stuff that's both common and important.

How many times have you run into a Starship or a Forcefield?  How about a Superfortress?  You of all people should know this.

And then there's Fallen Spire.

Lots of Heavy and Ultra-Heavy hulls.  Lots of Photon Lances that shred anything that doesn't move around.  Auto-Kiting behavior will quickly make a bomber fleet spread out so the vast majority of the fleet can avoid the Photon Lance.  A Starship, on the other hand, can easily get hit by the entire lance.

I would argue the Bombers and Heavy Bomber Starships have seperate roles.  Bombers are for assaulting oversized targets, while Bomber Starships are for killing other starships with their high speed and good DPS.

I know. I took that into account in my calculations:
Mark I Bomber
Cap dps: 4608
96*96/12*6=4608
Mark I Heavy Bomber Starship
Cap dps: 2700
2700*2/2=2700
--->
Mark IV Bomber
Dps per knowledge: 2,688
Total dps per total knowledge: 6,693

Mark IV Heavy Bomber Starship
Dps per knowledge: 2,7
Total dps per total knowledge: 6,75

--->

Also:
Some time ago I calculated the cost effectiveness of Turrets and Fortresses. I wanted to make similar calculations for Bombers and Heavy Bomber Starships
In this case.. knowledge cost effectiveness:
Mark IV Bomber
Dps per knowledge: 2,688
Total dps per total knowledge: 6,693

Mark IV Heavy Bomber Starship
Dps per knowledge: 2,7
Total dps per total knowledge: 6,75

True.
-Bombers are for anything they have an attack multiplier for as long as the target doesn't have an attack multiplier against Polycrystal.. because Bombers are quite fragile.
-Heavy Bomber Starships are good vs anything that doesn't counter Polycrystal.
-Bombers are almost twice as good as Heavy Bomber Starships in terms of simply dealing damage.
-Their range different isn't a huge factor because Heavy Bomber Starships are so fast they will get in and out of range in no time. However the speed is a big factor. For example it makes Heavy Bomber Starships good at raiding targets that aren't protected by Force Fields. Bombers can't do that. Also Heavy Bomber Starships are very tanky so they're often one the last ships to die in a fight.

You of all people should know this.
Don't worry babe. I'm not whacking 10 Peacemaker/Raid Engine / 10 Alarmist/Quadratic around for no reason.
