Beginner Question: What is good Against What
« on: March 19, 2011, 11:59:23 am »
Hi,

I started playing ai war recently again and a lot has changed. The "Good Against" Tooltip is gone now. I found some "reference" where i should see what ship is good against what ship, but I don't understand it. I can sort and click a lot of options but it's just too complicated (mind you, I study computer science!).

There are arrows like Me / Them (Does Me mean the ship I selected?) What does One on One and Cap mean (and wouldn't an option like "ressource" be more useful there to have 5000 ressources of ship 1 battle against 5000 ressources of ship 2?).

Long story short : I want to know what ship I need to build against certain ships and structures... And I find it a bit tedious to look in that reference for anything.

On a side note: i got Sentinel Frigates - they don't shoot at certain stuff though and I can't find out why. They got sniper style shots, but they also can't shoot at stuff thats not immune to snipers.

Sincerely

What you're probably seeing with the sentinels is the unit has radar dampening, so the sentinels need to get closer.

As for seeing what ships are good against what, just check the armor bonus/armor type that's listed for every ship in-game.  If you're not sure what armor types the AI ships have, just send a scout to the planet and you should be able to get a decent idea.

I've actually never used the reference you're talking about - I just look at armor types and experiment a bit.

The latest. So is there actually somewhere in the game to read about what radar dampening is?

IIRC not in the game. But the wiki has lots of good stuff:

How Does Radar Dampening Work?

the new armor system works with ships have a armor type and ships do modifiers to that type

Armor is a straight subtraction from each incoming shot's damage.  Cannot reduce shot damage to less than 20% of it's normal value.

Armor penetration is a straight subtraction from target armor for the purpose of that particular shot.
