Are you sure the shots are actually hitting something?  There's an "overkill refund" mechanic whereby a shot that is self-destructed in midair because its target has died before it could reach it (which happens tons if something pops through a wormhole into a massive turret cluster or whatever) causes the firing ship to reload really fast.  It's totally unrealistic but also relieves a lot of pressure for more sophisticated "should I even bother firing at target xyz" logic.

Yeah 100% positive. I've seen stuff like 6+ artillery bullets on screen at once, and the sound is rather unmistakable too. The fact that i've seen multiple times 1 golem 20-30 starships and 3-5 carriers getting destroyed in less than 2 minutes was good proof too. But i've never seen this outside of an exo golem wave defense, and i've used that golem a bunch.

I thought we already had a black hole machine? ;)

It'd be amusing to add some massive grav-slow effect to the BHM...

Isn't that a gravity drill?  It would be nice to be able to get those from Zenith Traders

That's true, the Grav Drill is basically the Grav Turret Mark Infinite ;)

Ok, so we started a new game and with my friend now knowing how to properly use the x and y+right click commands we're still alive and doing ok. Everything is on except any AI plots and a 6/7 AI.

What I don't really get is how fast the exo waves arrive after each other. We've had 3 waves in the last 1.5 half hours and another one is built up to 65% again. I find hardly any time to expand at all since most is spent on rebuilding my/our fleet.

The first few exos will be smaller and thus charge faster.  The interval between them (and their size) should generally increase by about 25% each time unless the provocation for them is also increasing.  Also, if by "Everything is on" you mean Spirecraft - Hard, Golems - Hard, AND Fallen Spire then... yea, you're going to be facing frequent exos for the rest of time ;)  Though unless you've got your first Spire City already you're only currently getting exos from the Spirecraft and Golems sources.

Dammit, so this is normal getting waves so frequently?

And no spire city yet.

With both Spirecraft - Hard and Golems - Hard?  Yes.  Playing with both on is intended to be a pretty serious challenge.  Playing with one of them on Hard and one on Easy would be considerably more tame.

And tossing Fallen Spire into the mix is really asking for it if you escalate on that side ;)
