Any trick to Teuthida Guard Posts?
« on: November 24, 2012, 10:25:55 pm »
There are two on the AI homeworld. One is underneath a forcefield. I took every unit I had that was immune to reclamation and only got the first one down to 60%. I haven't invested in starships much.

Am I supposed to use my champion? It seems kind of weak right now. It's level 17. I have the second tier Zenith starship with about 15 hardpoints. There are two more wormholes that I noticed. There might be more.

If there's no good trick to deal with the Teuthida posts, I think I'll just abandon this game. I don't want to take a long time to build up a counter. I checked the other AI homeworld. No tough Guard Posts, but it has a Plasma Eye.

Try tossing in some Starships.  Flagships are a straight %-damage boost to your other ships, Heavy Bombers and Plasma Siege hit pretty hard.  If you got it done to 60% with just fleet ships, Starships (and I'm talking just Mark I Starships that you start the game with) might be enough.  Interesting, the Teuthida might count as a Sniper and Scout Starships give Sniper immunity to ships around them.  So if the Teuthida was doing most of the killing itself, pack in Scout Starships in your attack to reduce your casualties (the immunity circle is pretty small, so bring multiple to increase their coverage).  And yeah, I'd say bring the Champion.  The more the merrier!

If you have the plasma siege modules for the champion then I recommend using them, they're quite good against structures if I remember correctly.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

The champion is handy but against AI homeworlds it's a bit limited in application. Getting it up to the third tier (cruiser) is a good idea and not too hard, fourth tier (battleship) may be a bit of a stretch (if the AI uses a lot of gravity it's worth it though since only battleship-level champions are gravity immune) though the later scenarios tend to get easier due to your growing strength. Set the galaxy view to show "Nebula Wormholes", that'll highlight where you can go. Since only the alerted planets get reinforced to any interesting degree your only worry would be deep-strike but I think it stops counting as a deep-strike once you're in the nebula. Bigger champions don't bring that much of a return since there aren't very many upgrade points even if you do all the nebulas so your modules will likely lag behind your capacity but at least you're getting more hardpoints. Especially heavy weapons benefit from larger hulls since you'll likely want some shields on the craft unless you're using the Neinzul (which is pretty cool BTW, the ability to mount botnet guns won't help you on HWs but it's a great guerilla unit)

Do you have Spirecraft enabled? The Penetrator is plain unfair to the AI if there's no special tachyon emitters around.

I haven't faced the Teuthida, are its reclaimer drones vulnerable to gravity effects?
