Journaling In Game?

Greetings Arcen denizens. I have half a mind to drop a huge noob bomb and start a thread of everything-that-I-did-not-or-have-not-picked-up-at-first for the benefit of myself & other greenhorns, but the time leeching must not be allowed to branch out & flourish right now.

Call me odd but I am enjoying modifying my first games with notes. Like, alot. I see that there is a journal, but I can't seem to WRITE anything in it. Not sure why. Am I missing something?

The journal is just for the game to record stuff for you to read, actually ;)  You can leave notes on planets on the galaxy map, though.

The journal is only used by the game itself to record special happenings for you. I think you really only get to use it if you play with the Fallen Spire campaign on (Light of the Spire expansion) or with Champions (Ancient Shadows expansion). Otherwise the journal is largely not used.

You could just use a notepad open in the background, though ;)

That is something I think would be so cool if it would actually be used. Like, for players to write their own 'commander logs' in the journal in addition to the campaign uses it has.
