Planet name files, how do I use them?
« on: November 24, 2012, 09:39:37 pm »
Yes, I am really asking how do you use the altplanetnames.txt files, as I have never used any of them before, and am uncertain exactly how. But after so many games of being unable to understand the names of my, and the AI's, (which I will make into my own) planets, I decided it was a time for change. Besides, the only ones that I could ever read more often than not were *murder*. I see several AARs that have some neat names, so I've decided to 'borrow' some of them. Now then, on to the question. How do I stea- I mean 'borrow' these altplanetnames.txt files?

In the RuntimeData folder in your AI Wars install is a file called altplanetnames.txt, just replace it with a file that has one planet name per line.  The game will randomly pick names from that file FIRST.  Once it runs out of names on that list, then it generates its own.

For example, I have Steam installed on C:\Games\Steam.  So AI Wars is located in "C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\ai war fleet command" and in that folder I will find the RuntimeData folder.  So the full path for me directly to the alternate planet names file is:

C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\ai war fleet command\RuntimeData\altplanetnames.txt
