REQ- Stop turrets from attacking guard posts
« on: November 07, 2015, 02:22:57 pm »
Need to say that I Love the GAME. Favorite is capturing and trying new ships each map.

Question...
I like to setup beachheads on neighboring planets.   I want to kill the spawning ships, and leave the guard posts alone.  Can I tell my turrets to not attack non-spawning objects, or leave the guard posts alone?

Thanks!

Why would you want to let guard posts live? If they're not your priority targets, just manually target ships and  let the turrets kill the GPosts in their free time. Also, nothing player-controlled will destroy dangerous things, such as Counterattack GPosts and Barracks, or tedious things such as Wormhole GPosts. If you're afraid your turrets won't target the AI's ships when they will spawn, just kill the GPosts first and your turrets won't be distracted.

Also, as your question sounds more like a request for strategic advise, I feel it would have been more appropriated in the Strategy subforum.
Never mind, it's fine.

As far as I know, there isn't a way to prevent a turret from attacking an enemy unit if it is within range and there are no other targets.  Well, you can power it down, but I assume you'd like it to still kill AI units.

The only reason I can think of that you might want to do this is if you wanted to control where the AI's reinforcements spawn... but even then, it is usually better to kill all the Guard Posts (and Wormhole Guardians, too, if you can) and let all the reinforcements spawn at the Command Station.  That makes beachhead layout much simpler.

What are you trying to accomplish?

Thanks.  I'm under the impression that by leaving the guard posts it will spread out the enemy spawns.  That way i can use a few sniper turrets to help take out the spawns on neighboring planets, keeping threat to 0.

The number of reinforcements is N*Guard_Posts with each guard post getting N.

I know that a Wormhole GPost is supposed to provide reinforcement location to AI's ships even when all other regular posts are busted. However, I never saw them used as reinforcement point. On a neutered planet, reinforcement always spawn at the OCStation. Also during a hack, response fleet always spawn on the OCStation or sometimes near the gravity well, but never at the Wormhole GPosts.

Am I missing something? Is it just because of plain randomness that I never saw reinforcement on a WHole GPost?

So the WHole GPosts are only there for calculation, and can't spawn reinforcement on top of themselves?

That would mean one must only kill regular GPosts and beachhead the OCStation, like putting tractor beams, flak, lightning on top of it and all other turrets just in range. Some sort of Kahuna defense style, but instead of bunkering toward a wormhole, it's bunkering toward an enemy OCStation.

Am I right?
