Altplanetnames from The Culture
« on: January 04, 2017, 05:31:40 pm »
Contains names like:

  • "Just Fine Till You Came Along"
  • "Sacrificial Victim"
  • "Clean That Up Before You Leave"
  • "Hence the Fortress"
  • "Serious Callers Only"
  • "Contents May Differ"
  • "Someone Else's Problem"
  • "The Precise Nature Of The Catastrophe"
  • "Abundance Of Onslaught"
  • "Irregular Apocalypse"
  • "No More Mr Nice Guy"
  • "Flexible Demeanour"
  • "Liveware Problem"
  • "Only Slightly Bent"
  • "You'll Thank Me Later"
  • "It'll Be Over By Christmas"
  • "All Through With This Niceness And Negotiation Stuff"
The list was compiled from all the spacecraft in the Culture series, although a few were trimmed due to being particularly unpronounceable or uninteresting (such as the "T3OU 4" or the "5*Gelish-Oplule").  The "CH2OH.(CHOH)4.CHO" remained in, however (aka "Galactose").  The "Mistake Not..." was left as its abbreviated title, as its full name (The "Mistake Not My Current State Of Joshing Gentle Peevishness For The Awesome And Terrible Majesty Of The Towering Seas Of Ire That Are Themselves The Mere Milquetoast Shallows Fringing My Vast Oceans Of Wrath") would be far, far too long.

While it might be far too long, we could've threatened the AI with its excessive longness!

Also, the Mistake Not...'s name is accurate.  A particular alien vessel tries to call its bluff after hearing the full name.  It didn't go well for them.
