Quick Question: Command Station Shield guard post has 2,000,000 health. Spirecraft Ram does 40,000,000 damage. So how do rams not destroy the guard post?
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

Insta-kill immunity most likely.

Spirecraft rams don't instakill, do they? They just do huge amounts of damage. Spirecraft Siege towers are also immune to instakill, and I've blown them up with rams before.

ah, you were too fast for me. Oh well, my message didn't change that much from its meaning.

It isn't insta-kill by default but the spire ram is committing over-kill, 20x over, which might be cause for that attribute to kick in.

I'm pretty sure Insta-kill is it's own thing. As I said, I've killed Spirecraft/other guard posts with rams before, so I don't think that's it.

EDIT: Oh, and a list of ships I love, but hate when the AI uses them:

Sentinel frigates: No biggie, but decloak my starships, which makes using cloakers+bombers/sieges impractical for taking out eyes.

Zenith Bombard Ships: Absurd range and power absolutely obliterates my turret defenses and Spirecraft.

Teleport Battle Stations: AFSGZVVYYDDXGYDRYST%YR&E%VG STE%&ES&&R&^%&EYUGO*TYOTRLK!!! >:(

It's not a homeworld guard post is it?

I can't think of any reason for a normal command station shield post to get that kind of immunity. Did it take damage normally otherwise?

It took about 4% damage. It's not a core guard post, just a regular one.

Sounds fishy. Keep a convenient save handy and wait and see what devs say about it. It's been a while since I've played myself but the release notes don't say anything about Spire Rams getting changed. I'd assume it's a bug but it could be functioning as intended in an unobvious fashion.

I've got the save. I don't have an autosave prior to the ramming, but here it is.

Thanks, I'll take a look when I get a chance.  My guess _would_ be armor, but I don't think anything has that much armor.  So another possibility is damage multiplier... but I removed almost all the <1 multipliers.

Okay, what's with these Roaming Enclaves. It says they sometimes attack everything, but I have never seen them attack the AI. Ever. They're more annoying than Hybrids. I wish I could disable them for this game, since I didn't intend to enable them in the first place.

There are some enemy-to-all enclaves but they're rarer (by about 2:1) than AI-ally enclaves.  They also tend to last a hilariously short period of time.  Just a reminder that a single ship doesn't do well against a hostile galaxy.  Unless it's the cookie monsterDevourer Golem, of course.

That makes sense. I'm just hitting them with a mk. I lightning warhead each time they come around. Problem is, my fleet takes care of them in seconds, but I'm up against a very nasty planet and can't afford to split it up. This situation is pretty annoying. Between roaming enclaves hitting one side and full on battles on the other side, I'm just about trapped. Getting that refugee ship will not be for quite a while.

(I did actually start another FS game, just because I needed a break from the strain of this one. I figured out that Spacetime manipulators are a lot of help getting the refugee ship to one's homeworld, seeing as it's so darn slow. I wish it had the good sense to not shoot at anything, if it did I could just cloak it.)

Part 3(?): Bombs away!

The second shard remains a tantalizing treat, so close to our homeworld and yet so dangerous to attempt collecting. Our empire is sandwiched between two threats: Neinzul buggers swarming our homeworld on the Eastern front, while full-scale battles are constantly erupting between fleets on the Western front.

A recent attack by Zenith Bombardment Ships cut a massive hole into our fleet. With our numbers cut down by hundreds, the rest of the AI saw fit to launch a larger attack. All the alert ships that had previously been in waiting surged into our system. The fleet ships took heavy losses until a martyr arrived to cut the attack.

the nature of that attack presented a perfectly sizable window of opporutunity that High Command instantly seized. Since all the guard ships had gone on the attack and been destroyed, the next planet, Oridmurka was now vulnerable. And since it hosted Xampite asteroids and a second cursed golem*, it was a valuable target. Working quickly, the remaining fleet stormed the planet and eliminated the command post. The losses were again severe due to an ion cannon watching over the system. The crews manning the resource harvesters** have been complaining about the extra workload producing replacement ships, but unfortunately it seems as if that load will not be lifted any time soon, as another Exo-Galactic wave is approaching full strength, and we're going to need more Martyrs ASAP.

*EDIT: I also just noticed it has a Spire Civillian Leader Outpost, a Microparasite Fabricator and a Data Center. Woo!

**Yes, I know they're supposedly automated, but I like to think that all the structures and large ships are manned. The survey ship seems to have a crew, after all. So why not others?

I think the command shield guard posts have command grade armor, which means that spirecraft rams do pretty much nothing to them.
