Related yet unrelated: Oh no, a CPA, what ever shall I do! I don't know if it was intentional to get ridiculously low numbers of ships for CPAs, but it was still a good chuckle when I first saw it and was afraid, only to feel stupid once I looked at the ship count.

Currently I am playing on a 100 planet map, have just taken planet no.87. The CPA that was called soon after would hold ~12k units, it came with ~600.
At that point the AI was out of ship ...  ::)
I thought the AI would get meaner as AIP goes up  8)
 :D
What difficulty?

A 2 ship CPA is hilarious :)

I think it must be overestimating (way overestimating) the power of some of its ships. I was just facing an experimentalist and for regular attacks it basically only sent 5 ships a wave (level 7.3), the waves usually had a shield booster, a munitions booster, a decoy, a flagship, and some other random ships. Of course that was at progress 1 - 100, I didn't keep playing that game though as it seems I love the early game so much more than the middle game that I get bored to easily.
