Again, I would like to point out my suggestion to give warheads "immunity to AOE immunity", or at least maybe for the higher mark ones.
(mantis link to come later)
Yeah but then some ships would have to get an immunity to immunity to AOE immunity.

It would be Major Electric. I'm pretty sure that is limited to Warheads and AOE of that type.

However, immunity to AOE is reasonably limited at the moment, there's only maybe 5 fleet ships that have it?

We need to go deeper!

Not really. I'm perfectly fine with warheads hitting everything.

One of them is the missile frigate, meaning that effectively 1/5 of fleetships have it.

No, then some ships would have to have immunity to recursive immunities, and the immunity subsystem would turn into a third AI to fight.
If warheads can't solve it, use more warheads.

I don't see this as a bad thing however. They are not EMP immune and if it's really bad, you can unlock counter-missile abilities to counter them.

The Warheads still kill enough that if you are bringing them out they will break the deadlock you are in so why should their not be a few fleet ships that are AOE immune?

Because warheads are the trump card in the (base-game) human arsenal, trading short-term awesomeness for long-term viability. If I'm going to start an AIP spiral, I want the immediate effect to be devastating. And because of situations like a mono-missile wave.

(I also don't like that martyrs are strictly better than warheads. They should have the AoE restriction if either of the two does.)

That said, it's not a gaping balance wound, simply a minor-to-major annoyance.

The martyrs get preferential treatment over the warheads due to the martyrs being an optional superweapon instead of a core unit and costing irreplaceable resources to build (though I suppose the warheads do that too; AIP can be countered but never completely "unspent").

That said, I see why you'd like the warheads to just kill everything ;)

===Operation Sangfroid====
I have ten minutes to repel a 6800 ship CPA. My fleet is near full strength, missing about a third of its fleetships. My HW defenses are gutted, and I am down three systems, which is really costing me from energy. I still have 700 or so threat.

8:35 Threat cleaned, 2 of three systems reestablished. I popped 2 distribution nodes to accomplish this.

8:39 Hopefully I can get away with sub-nuclear force... CPA imminent, homeworld defense rebuilt (raided another couple d nodes).

8:40 All 7000 ships stick together: deploying nuke: WHAT THE CUBE?!? The carriers popped as though I had popped them, instead of nuked them. Their contents deployed unharmed. Rageposting... Savescumming...

8:48 It took 7 lightning warheads mkI. The AI send all its ships as one blob of 7 carriers. My fleet + the aforementioned warheads take it out. Shield bearers are awesome for protecting warheads.

8:55 fleet/defences/economy restabilized; resuming assault on HWs.

9:00 killed all core guardposts on the first HW, and have 5 lightningIIs under cloak on the core station. This should kill it instantly when I give the order. Time to move on to the second HW.

9:05 econ floored, but I have the minirams ready.

9:07 Teuthidas dead from minirams, bringing in entire fleet. It died. But it took out the rest of the guardposts, so a desperate build of 3mkIII lightings and a mkI under cloak do this:

Nice work!  :)

10/10 is a beast to say the least.

Although, only 4 ARS's on the map? I thought it always seeded 5 of them? (Looking at your opening post here.)

I enjoyed the warhead spam too.  :o

D.

edit: Yikes, if you captured only 8 systems, that's still 148 AIP from other sources. Just how many warheads did you use?  :o

Ah, that was a bit unclear. There were five, I was listing the non-ARS things on ARS worlds. I ended up not taking the shredder ARS (with the pre-nerf interplanetary munitions booster).

Yeah, those give you access to a lot of awesome at the very end.

Well, some of it was from the core guardposts, some from the Co-ps, one gate raid, and about five distribution nodes, but the rest was lightning warheads. So 148- (60 + 32 + 5+5) = 44 AIP of lightning warheads.  I did not adopt my signature lightly.

I really need to fix this bug...

Well, to be fair, the AI had him at his last legs by the end.
If he had somehow failed with the last set of warheads, then he would have almost certainly lost quickly afterwords.

From what I can tell from previous posts, 10/10 made him work DAMN hard for this victory.

Yup.

And if had not gotten mini-rams from that ARS those coreposts would have been a much bigger problem.

As he said in his opening post, the RNG liked him this game.

10/10 is still 10/10 though and this counts as a clean win so congrats again!
