Title: A Most Unusual 9/9 Game: Now with too many screenshots.
Post by: Arc-3N-4B on June 20, 2013, 02:02:44 AM
This will be my first 9/9 game. I hope this posts properly...

All Expansions 60 Planets Honeycomb 231568249 Bonus ship Protector Starship

9/9 Random All Non-Tech/Random All Non-Tech Random All Non-Tech/Random All Non-Tech

CSGs and Fast Drones off

Traders, Dyson 6, Golems Moderate, 1/2 Enemy Waves, Reveal Random AI Types

Complete Visibility. Two players - I'm Normal, my friend is Helper.

Well, this should be interesting.

AI 1 - Green: Onyx Star has a Plasma Eye, a Shredder Drone post, and a Wrath Lance. It also has an Alarm, a Counter Spy, two Ion IIs, an Ion III, an Ion V, an Orbital Mass Driver, and a Warhead Interceptor.

AI 1 is a Mine Enthusiast / Experimentalist.

AI 2 - Purple: Diamond Star has a Translocator Eye, a Core Raid Engine, and a Wrath Lance. It also happens to have two Ion IIs, an Ion V, an OMD, and a Warhead Interceptor. Do these AIs think they are Peacemakers, or is that normal for 9/9?

AI 2 is a Vengeful / Scorched Earth. Guess what I'm not killing.

Looks like this'll be a fairly standard game of newbies getting murdered.

Hahaha no.

So, to balance this out, we have a special rule. My friend will be controlling a H/K MkV. If it dies, it shall be downgraded to a MkIV, then a MkIII, and so on. If it dies as a MkI, he shall get some guardians instead.

Let's hope he's not...overly aggressive.

AI 2 is a Vengeful / Scorched Earth. Guess what I'm not killing.

I guess that's the "can't touch this" AI.

it's normal for 9/9. Homeworlds tend to have a lot of ion cannon-like structures.
And AI 2 is just a bad luck random roll :P

Tell your friend to be very careful with that first H/K. It's gonna be a huge help against the homeworlds. I'd go for Diamond Star first. The lower your AIP when you take out that Core Raid Engine, the better.

good luck ^^

btw, is it just me or does AI 2 has a lot more planets than AI 1? Talk about terrible RNG luck.

Bonus ship Protector Starship
If you learn well the Way Of The Cheese, that ship will carry you far.

Fixed that for you.

The ion/omd/w-int combo is standard for core planets, and I think also for homeworlds.  Peacemaker is where they do it everywhere.

Quote
AI 2 is a Vengeful / Scorched Earth.
Good night!  Talk about kicking someone while they're down.  Or is that kicking someone while you're down?

Quote

Ingenious, I really look forward to hearing how that turns out.

My guess is that said H/K would have a fighting chance against everything else in the galaxy at the start of the game, probably excluding the wrath lances.

Are the H/Ks immune to repairs? If so, do the auto regen?

In any case, a Mk. V H/K could probably make a beeline to all "important" worlds, nueter them, go to the core worlds, neuter those too, and probably still have health left over, provided he limits his exposure to OMDs, fortresses, and anti-starship guard posts.

Initial Unlocks: Harvester IIIs.

I start by going with my usual starting units - 10 additional science Is, 10 total stardocks, 3 total starship constructors.

Hunter goes to neuter Hot Wind and Auderghoo. I unlock Protector IIs and start building them. Counter everything!

I then build defenses on the homeworld. Nothing too substantial for now, tachydrone on each wormhole [if they have cloak, I don't think so], mines, and a cap of sniper turrets.

8:30 first wave declared, 97 Missile Frigates and 2 starships. This should be easy. Hunter might need to pull back if they are plasma siege or something, but whatever.

9:50 Apparently the Vengeful AI isn't happy, incoming Mk5 ships.

They get murdered by mines.

Wave hits at about the same time, with 2 Leech starships and a flagship. Hunter takes care of them all.

12:34 second wave declared. 181 laser gatlings, 3 starships.

Vengeful AI is still not happy, but I'm not sure what it's doing.

They all get sniped to death as they leave the grav well.

[Upon closer inspection, I think they were going after the Core FF/ZPG I gave my Hunter so that he wasn't bothered by the no energy thing above his units]

---

I wonder if the Hunter wants to buy something?

Trader shows up on homeworld shortly thereafter. ZPG purchased.

---

As we kill the first data center [Only -10 AIP? I thought it was -20? Or is that just 9/9?], I notice a Dire Guardian Lair on the planet adjacent...and the Dyson.

And it's AI 2. Wonderful.

---

Random lonely tachyon sentinel.

Why do Widow Guardians look like planes?

---

Well, the Dyson planet has a Radar Jammer mk2 on it, too. Looks like a good place to stop, for now.
Title: Re: A Most Unusual 9/9 Game

yup it's true. Data centers give -20 AIP on dif 7 and below, -15 AIP on dif 8 (not sure about that) and -10 AIP on dif 9 or up ( I think). Making dif 9 even harder than it already was.

And I thought all mk V ships were immune to aoe or mines? Or was that just missile frigs?

Anything that's mine-immune in those vengeful spawns got sniped.

They are not immune to repair, and only cost 50,000 of each, at 120/s. So easy to repair.

Also why is my Insert Quote button not working?
Title: Re: A Most Unusual 9/9 Game

So, we destroy the Dire Guardian Lair.

Two MLRS, one Gravity. All 3 are eliminated with ease, but one protector starship dies.

A few moments later, the Dyson is freed. Incoming vengeful AI.

Incidentally, Radar Jammer Mk2 doesn't list "Nuclear Explosions" under its' immunities, despite being Scorched Earth'd. Or was that Nuclear Command that kills ships?

Well, a chunk of that went off into nowhere again. Sniper bait.

[Note - if anyone knows a way to cloak a Zenith Power Gen, ideally without having the cloaking device being targeted, please let me know]

With the Dyson freed, it'll keep the nearby planets on alert, sucking up reinforcements and taking care of them.

Next target: Posy! Objects of note: An Ion Mk3 and an Ion Mk5. Why so many Mk5 ions?

En-route, we have a battle between planes Widow Guardians and the Hunter.

The Widow Guardians were severely outmatched. The very notion of then winning is just plane wrong.

---

A wave is declared, missile frigates and some starships. A Plasma Siege brings some concern, as a while ago apparently one got close enough and started hitting my home command, but it's flattened.

A second wave is declared immediately after, 242 laser gatlings and 2 starships. This'll be easy.

I put a cap of needler turrets down.

Apparently an arachnid guard post killed two protector starships. Oh well, the H/K is Artillery Immune...and Mass Driver immune.

The wave hits, two plasma siege starships and a leech starship.

---

Posy is clear. AIP 41. I send a colony ship, and 5 science I's, in a transport. And then I realize Science I's are not ion-proof.

And then, as I'm building the command station, the Hunter goes to neuter another planet, and then the AI sends some ships in, heavily damages the Ion III, and kills the command station.

*Sigh*

I go to clean up some threat with my two Riots, but a planetary armor inhibitor shuts their shields down, and missile frigates and mines kill one. :(

---

After the Hunter forgot about vengeful spawns, I nearly lose my home command.

Grav Is unlocked.

---

Vengeful spawn, one zips into my homeworld but runs off...

...the other has the Hunter between me and it.

---

A vengeful spawn made a Raid Starship, killed an energy collector, causing a brownout, killing my Ion V.

The other half of the vengeful spawn was on my homeworld, when all my forcefields shut down.

The command station takes a pounding, but survives...

...then the ZPG goes up, the forcefields go back online, and the AI's assault is annihilated.

My friend wants Dire Guardians to be buffed. I'll shout at him after he puts the H/K away.

I tested a Mothership VS H/K Mk5.

The H/K got down to half health, but still won.

He'll probably want a buffed mothership, knowing him :P

The H/K got down to half health, but still won.
At what range did the engagement begin?  I suspect the Mothership would win starting from maximum range.

If I recall correctly, the mothership got three shots off before the H/K closed to firing range.

If I recall correctly, the mothership got three shots off before the H/K closed to firing range.
The H/K has 3 times the DPS AND a 2x bonus multiplier against the Mothership - This doesn't surprise me.

Some of the Dire Guardians are at or above H/K Mk I levels, like the Dire Raider, Dire Artillery, and Dire Disassembler at 4, 5, 6 million DPS and 100+ million HP each.

So, right away, a Raid Starship is still on Posy and kills the rebuilt command station. Again.

Meanwhile, I move some missile frigates up to eliminate it, and send a missile Protector Starship towards the Hunter and his escort.

He decides to fight some more Dire Guardians.

I thought I had taken screenshots. Apparently not.

Two of the protector starships get sniped to death. The Hunter's paint isn't even scratched.

Some suicidal AI ships decide to attack the Hunter.

The barracks is attacked. The H/K gets some minor paint damage.

1:50 Another wave declared, 459 fighters and 2 starships. I build some MRLS turrets.

I also have some Raid Starships for datacenters.

1:55 Another wave.  437 missile frigates, 2 starships. Except this time it's to Posy. Moving fleet.

The fleet is half destroyed, and then the AI can't seem to decide whether to retreat or not.

The Hunter fights another barracks. Paint damage, ho!

As the Hunter goes to take an ARS planet, the Special Forces shows up.

Also, protector starships seem to like flying all the way out to the edge of the gravity well for no apparent reason. Bug?

I capture Doctor Jazz. The AI doesn't like this and sends everything it has on the planet after my command station. Which means the ARS.

ARS gives me youngling commandoes. Could be useful.

Argument over Electric Bomber VS regular bombers. I'll take regular ones, please.

Warp Jammer unlocked. Bomber Mk2 unlocked. Data center raided.

Also figured out what was up with my protector starships. Damn translocators. Stirred up a bunch of threat, Doctor Jazz is under attack. Hunter en-route.

The Hunter shows up. Have a picture of overkill.

CPA declared. 631 ships.

I deepstrike a data center. The Vengeful spawn throws implosion artillery at me. It gets imploded by missiles. Or was that exploded? Doesn't matter.

A raid starship kills Posy. Again. *Sigh*

The same group then slams into Doctor Jazz, takes out the command station, then runs off to the superterminal. The Hunter follows them, and gets knocked down to about half health, as the CPA hits. A carrier is intercepted by the Hunter, and the other swings in from Altrite.

Said Hunter is so dangerous that worlds are put on alert near it even with a warp jammer. Or maybe that's because Doctor Jazz isn't rebuilt yet.

The carrier moves to Maeselis, but the Hunter reaches it first. Said carrier takes one look through the wormhole, goes "Nope." and moves away from it.

The Hunter is not amused.

2:48 1040 microfighters, 2 starships incoming. Will swat them later.

If it weren't so ridiculously edge case, the AI should seriously have some taunts for this.

"AI: Ok, who left the H/K's keys in the ignition?"

"AI: This isn't the Hunter Plot they told me about."

In this update we have "Way the hell too many screenshots." Twenty seven, to be precise.

As I open the save file and the Hunter joins Posy is immediately attacked.

And then the wave hits. I take a few casualties before the AI starts running.

Net result: 180 free microfighters. Thanks for the donation, AI!

I hear explosions. It's Posy.

And then a carrier shows up. On Posy.

I feel like I'm forgetting something...Ah, yes. Fort Is unlocked. I put two down on the homeworld as the AI attack on Posy is repelled...again.

The Hunter begins neutering planets. The fortresses begin field-retrofitting AI fleets with supplementary exhaust ports.

Also the AI got cutlasses and chameleons.

3:00 1579 laser gatlings to Fate. Where's my flyswatter? Oh, here it is, mines, forts, and turrets.

When they show up they are greeted with...mostly missiles and flame waves. They start running shortly.

Again, I would like to thank the AI for its' donation of free ships.

The Hunter destroys a barracks. Can the AI's Mk4 ships deal significant damage to the Hunter? [Spoilers: No.]

I send engineers to fix up the protector starships, and watch as they are promptly transformed into ionized gas by the three Ion Cannons on Jewel E.

The AI decides to raid Doctor Jazz. All I have to defend are some core parasites from a fabricator on Maeselis. The AI has some Mk5 ships, but it's better than nothing.

I see some Dysons on Hot Wind. How did they get there?

AI Revolution starts playing :3

I find a Vengeance spawn just sort of...chilling on Felis Aurorum.

My Hunter requests that Lightning Turrets be renamed "Tesla Turrets."

Jewel E clear. Fort goes up on Posy, which also has quarter caps of needler, laser, MRLS, missile, and sniper turrets, as well as some grav I's, to prevent any monkeying around by the AI.

The Hunter wants a Protector Guardian and Dire Guardian, similar to the Protector Starship.

A Data Center is destroyed. Where, I have no idea.

The Hunter obliterates a Fort I. In one shot. :3

It then moves on to devour everything on Prophet, and stares down a Dire Guardian Lair.

Meanwhile, my parasites are taking care of some threat.

Time to slaughter some Dire Guardians.

A Dire Raid and two Dire Infiltration guardians.

The Infiltration Guardians die in seconds. The Dire Raid guardian escapes destruction temporarily, then swings back at the Hunter, and opens fire, dealing a massive 200 million damage in one go.

The Hunter wants there to be a Dire Hunter/Killer. Thought you ought to know.

He picks a fight with three more Dire Guardians, 2 Laser and an MRLS.

They get obliterated.

More Data Centers eliminated. Two left, and the co-processors. AIP 42. Theat at 4,000 strength.

Wait, nevermind, 2,700 strength.

3:57 470 chameleons incoming. Flyswatter time.

The Hunter goes up against a Fortress Mk3!

And then complains that the fort survived a volley from his gun.

He calms down by vaporizing a barracks.

B612 capped. AIP 62. I install giant DO NOT ENTER signs [read: forts] on Doctor Jazz and Maeselis. You know what? I'm renaming "Maeselis" to "Missiles."

4:02 536 missile frigates inbound.

The Hunter wonders why mines, when used up, have two billion HP on their remains. I tell him not to question it, even if it seems like a small piece of faulty logic.

Or is that warhead logic? Can't remember.

Oh yes, I can tell. I have a suggestion for a "Protector Guardian" however - it gets one counter module that counters 20*Mark shots and reloads 2*Mark per second. So a Mk5 would be equal to one counter-module.

Alternatively, half that.

Bear in mind that in some stages of a non-superweapon game the player may simply not have the firepower to feasibly manage a MkI H/K, let alone a MkIII.  They're brutal ham-handed instruments of... well, you know.  So the DGs can't be all the way up there.  Some of them are pretty scary, though.  It's mostly a matter of how prepared you are.  And a hunter is always prepared.

Watch out for any implosion guardians (dire or otherwise), of course.

Doesn't look like the AI has implosion guardians at all right now. Or implosion anything, really.

Can the AI get Dire Guardians of guardian types they don't have?

Also, hi Hunter.

Yes, actually it's very likely as the guardian types and dire guardian types are unlocked separately.

What the hell is with the ally Hunter/Killer?? Where did that come from?
EDIT: My guess is a new cheat

2 player game. Second player [The Hunter] [Colonel Longhena, in game] is set to "Helper"

Then type

ilostit,AIHunterKillerV,1,1,1,1

This will spawn 1 Hunter/Killer Mk5 under player 2's control.

If they get annoyed by the no energy thing, type

ilostit,ZenithPowerGenerator,1000000,1000000,1,1
ilostit,AICoreForcefieldGenerator,1000000,1000000,1,1

[I think it's AICoreForcefieldGenerator, not sure though]

We, Hunter/Killers, sometimes can choose different side you know, though most of the time we prefer the AI. :P

Minus that one spirecraft implosion that got ruined in seconds.

It took whole seconds to arrange its totally unexpected accident in main engineering?

Here's what the galaxy looks like right now. Every planet I have except Fate has a warp jammer.

I start by looking around for where the hell my protector starships are. They're on B612.

Mobile Space Docks unlocked.

As we won't need the Superterminal, we will take it out. We don't really need to drain the reserve much, 10% really doesn't matter.

B612 is taken out. I decide to crack open the reserve while I rebuild. AIP 65.

I then throw up a quarter-cap of missile turrets there. Should be enough to deter threat.

I find out where all my resources are going - the MSDs are repairing a broken armored golem. I move them through the wormhole to the Hunter and DESYNC

*Sigh*

Fixed up.

AI Threat placement! Figures, it's mostly around Posy.

Hunter VS Barracks! Again! Microfighters scratch the MSDs' paint.

I wreck a data center. Incoming 2,000 threat.

Some oddities occur. No one wants to automatically attack some fighters, for some reason. [Note - Further inspection reveals a Radar Jammer Mk2]

I move some turrets around and immediately the AI attacks Doctor Jazz.

Dire Guardians! 2 MRLS and an infiltration. All protectors die, Hunter gets scratched.

Immediately after, we fight...more Dire Guardians. A Raider, Infiltration, and Needler. The Hunter gets roughed up because of a random Decoy, but we're done with Dire Guardians.

4:56 583 fighters incoming. And that's all for now.

Encountering a Desync is Treason, citizen! Failing to report it with a save is also Treason!

;)

More seriously, we consider those pretty close to crash-level severity, so if you have any idea on how I might reproduce it, please let me know.  It's probably related to the desync someone else reported a little while ago saying "During multiplayer the Dire Guardian countdown spawn causes a desync when it hits 1 second left".  I wasn't able to reproduce it because Treasonthere was no save attached, though it's possible it wouldn't have reproduced with a save either.

If that helps, big desync text appeared on my end exactly the same moment MSD beams connected with my HK mk5.

That could be related, yea, though desyncs are particularly tricky buggers and defy most principles of causation.

When you restarted, did you do the MSD-repairing-the-HK thing again, and it didn't have this problem?

Yeah, no problems after that.

Yep, them desyncs love to run and hide, sigh.

Here's the thing.

It goes "Desync" so I save. I can't remember which save it is, though - I'll attach it to the next post if A) I find it and B) I figure out how.

The Hunter rejoins. I don't even exit the game, I don't even leave it. He just leaves and rejoins. I don't think he restarted AI War at all.

It starts back up, lags a bit, then works perfectly.

And if it helps, I got a desync error immediately after the MSDs exited the wormhole. Don't know if they started repairing the H/K.

EDIT: You know, maybe it's the save I marked as "Random Desync"...just a hunch.

Operation "Setting The Stage" In Progress.

Phase One: Threat Cleanup

The Hunter experiences a "Too many heaps" crash, according to him. Like in his AAR.

5:01 CPA declared, 928 ships.

5:05 571 missile frigates incoming, 1:30 after the CPA.

Phase Two: Capture Leporis.

Leporis is the final stepping stone to the AI homeworld Diamond Star. It has a spire archive and a Black Widow golem on it, which I'll probaby activate.

The Hunter is sent in.

Phase Three: Swat the CPA

Carriers arrive on Fenhome, Auderghoo, and All Or Nothing.

The Hunter catches up with one on Lagrand.

Another carrier goes to hang out outside the Posy wormhole.

The last one waits outside B612.

Leporis is taken out. AIP 76.

Data Center eliminated. AIP 66. All that's left is the coprocessors.

While the Spire Archive is working, the Hunter and I discover signals/flares on the map.

Later, the Hunter finds himself in range of enough enemies to fill the screen with range circles.

At this point I'm just waiting on the spire archive. The Hunter gets a pet guardian, apparently, as neither the H/K nor this Lightning Guardian will auto-attack each other.

Spire Archive finishes. Mk3 Bombers unlocked, 5,000K left. What to get?

Next time, the grand finale.

LTF spam, then load up all those torpedoes into transports, and turn said transports into a gargantuan, AIP-free bomb.

Oh wait, I suppose that'll get patched.

o.O

That... oh wow.  I need to see that in action, ~before~ it inevitably gets patched, because that sounds ~awesome~.  xD

Ask, and ye shall receive!

I'll do it in my next AAR.

No Visiblity/Hide Map

No Scouts

WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG oh god raid engine
