You know, I don't remember hearing how Schrodinger died...

Quote from: Wikipedia
On 4 January 1961, Schrödinger died in Vienna at the age of 73 of tuberculosis... ...and was buried in Alpbach, Austria.

Cover-up? :P

Stop this nonsense. Cheesemakers, cheese-eaters and cows were made to pull a lever / butchered on sight / immigration / adulthood / purchase. So will be quantum physicists.

Now, I've been whacked around the head with a lot of RL business lately, but I think I can fit in the first steps of the western operation in between breakfast and whatever dire duty of mine commands me to tend to it next. So harken, you men who stand against the two grand AIs, and hear my tale!

With the fleet assembled at KADESH, we turn our gaze westward. What looks like everything within 4 hops of KADESH through Kinmichtio being green or otherwise valuable is actually Two Hive Golems, One mkIV Factory, One Regenerator Golem and One Advanced Research Station. Now then, on to...

Operation Nile Flooded
And it's all live now, too! No retelling, everything is writtent as it happens.

Spider Turrets are unlocked.
And built.

Kinmichtio is felled in a torrent of gore and spare hybrid parts. Having killed everything of resistent potential a while ago helps, too. I erect structures to impede any incursions into KADESH and rename the world to Columnae. The faint dying of Neinzul raiders in the eastern systems underscores this first step on this occidental journy. Waves announce their intent upon Skandza, and I make ready for the Tigers to emerge there with protective purpose.

Delayed by a phone call, my timing on the defensive production of Tigers is off. The shields are halfway gone before I get to order the Engineers onto the Dock, and yet the Felines, heroes that they are, manage to thwart the Frigates and Armour ships that so beleagured the Skandza fort. With their mission accomplished, I send them on to support Operation Nile Flooded by swarming out over Zamarye, west of Clumnae.

Now, to secure my western bridgehead, I begin to cleanse the surrounding worlds. Zamarye receives a stream of Tigers from Columnae, with the fleet in waiting to step over and offer assistance. While the cats do their work, I personally oversee the building of mine fields in KADESH, in honour of their newly gained usefulness. Neither Pharos nor Skandza or Columnae warrant such protective measures, and I realise that the bounties of the western worlds will require a certain level of defencive commitment.

And with this, I take my temporary leave.

There will be vengeance.  Or was that vengeance?

Took us a while to get the AI to time those phone calls properly.

Yes, based on feedback thus far, I think an era has begun where it is truly unwise to fly into explosive devices :)  And remarkably inexpensive to simply drop off some bombs in space...  Why propel your weapons when the enemy will save you the trouble and collide with them willingly?

I guess you didn't scout the Impatience Engine?  More to the point, I don't know of a way of getting notifications (or having it show up on Recent Unread Topics) from this forum software for edits, just new posts ;)

(Standard movements such as scout picketing, research stations and the like will not be mentioned. They happen with every strategic event, no matter what the situation. Also, every system that lacks strategic importance receives exactly 5 standard turrets per type, two AOE turrets each, six sniper and six spiders, one normal and one hardened shield, two tractor beam turrets, and one counter-sniper turret, as well as one space dock.)

The constant Tiger swarm aimed for Zamarye fails to do a thing. The Tigers' FRD logic seems to prefer single fleet ships over juicy guard posts, and an aggravatingly efficient Gravity & Laser Guardian combo annihilates any cats coming into their range with appaling ease. The local radar jammer doesn't help either. I send in the fleet and, without even considering the use of more sophisitcated tactics, drive them right on top of the Gravity guardian. A slugfest ensues, and the system gets cleaned up rather thoroughly. The shield bearers prevented any losses whatsoever. Zamarye is downgraded from P6 (nuisance/threat) to P1 (Insignificant), and the fleet moves on to southeastern Kuraxi, the primary defences of which are an a horde of mkII ships and a planetary armour booster.

And a devourer Golem that forgot to mention its travelling plans in the region. I give the order to board transports for the regular fleet and Starships, then stop the production for further Tigers. Kuraxi's mkII fleet is annihilated though, so there is something gained after all. As the Golem moves on to impervious KADESH, the Tigers resume their now unimpeded bombings, and sanitise Kuraxi without further incidents. Fleet support was not needed, although I did send in the fighters to mop up the Viral Shredders. New priority rating: P3 for resources.

The PzKpfWs are redirekted towards Admmic in the further west, sporting another Advanced Research Station and no defences worth mentioning. Waves of Armor Ships and Polarizers are poised to strike against Clumnae, but lack the strength to do any damage. Starships and Guardians in Admmic delay progress, but as the waves are beaten back and the fleet moves in, the system falls. I build my command station and defences on the wormhole to Wltooth, hoping that they will protect the Regenerator Golem there from any potential harm coming against it from this flank. Thanks to the shield bearers, the command station is swiftly finished and the sound of blades scraping on spire-stuff fills the audiosphere. Spawners are unlocked, and I am a very happy man.

I thoughtlessly send the remaining Tigers into Witooth, not recalling that the Raid Engine in Arkmir will want to ruin my day after a very mkIV fashion. Considering for a moment to retreat from this front and pursue the Hive Golem at far-western Iusakiyi instead, I nonetheless come to my senses in time and give orders to redirect the flow of tigers towards the Raid Engine, while also building Engineers to subsidise this move with from my overly full resource budget. Gaining a further increased sense of sanity, I also manage to observe that this strategy is full of fail, since the Tigers would need more decisive orders than "Go over there as soon as you're born" to break through to the target. Offensive operations are suspended until Admmic is properly fortified, and the fleet rebuilt to full strength.

An enemy counter to my Tiger aggression destroys the ARS, but is naturally to late to effect any change of importance. The work of SCIENCE! is resumed by a common research station while the incursos are being dealt with.

Admmic is rechristened to the name of Sargasso, any enemy presence within my own systems is erased, minefields are built, research is conducted, and the economy remains healthy; especially in terms of metal.

The current goals of Operation Nile Flooded (which, in broad terms, aims at claiming all strategic resources southwest of KADESH) are as following:
  • Disable the Raid Engine at Arkmir
  • Rebuild and expand the fleet
  • Begin the restauration of the Regenerator Golem at Witooth
  • Conquer the Hive Golem and Factory at Raepoko

I send a full force of mkII scouts to Arkmir in order to be able to correctly gauge the effort needed to bring down the raid engine. From the looks of it, there is a dense formation of enemy guard posts all around the entrance gate, but nothing between there and the RE except for a lot of space. My options, then, are to either outrun the local defenders and loose them over the distance, or to come in force and destroy them while a bomber detachment takes out the RE. It has six million health, two thousand armour, and a structural hull.

Tigers are bred and loaded onto transports. Hope dictates that they will be sufficient to fulfill this task. Metal reaches its resource cap and Fortresses mkI are researched, and their construction commences. Meanwhile, the transports arrive at the Raid Engine and watch the local defenders move off to Sargasso. A strange way of maintaining strategic assets, but who are we to second-guess this AI? The Tigers disembark, and one reloading period later, the RE disintegrates. While the transports make for Sargasso, the Tigers endeavor to destroy as many Hybrid facilities and tachyon guardians as possible before invading Wltooth.

The Raid Engine's last emission of defiance touches down in je-ne-sais-où, and the Tigers destroy the Wltooth command station. Supplementary ones are made and sent to the same system in order to prepare the ground for the taking. An age old problem elsewhere: A leech Starship keeps being bounced around by the Military CS on Skandza, and its immunity to both Missiles and Snipers makes it take no more damage than the MCS itself inficts. It will suffer for a long time yet.

Edit: Not so long after all. The ever-merciful Devourer Golem put an end to its stay in hell.

That's probably about as bad as it gets for an AI ship.  It can't make progress, and it can't die.

The Tigers are busy in Wltooth ATM.

Does anyone know a better image hoster than this here imageshack, by the way?

After switching the Tiger's orders from FRD to precise waypoint attacks, the remaining guard posts fall quickly and the Eye gives up the ghost. The defenders are slowly but certainly eradicated, and the Fleet receives orders to finish what the Tigers have not finished yet. I stupidly lose a lot of shield bearers to the local Ion Cannon mkII, but do not worry overly much. We have reserves. And the system is ours.

I build ten manufacturies per type and planet in order to facilitate the reconstruction of the Regenerator Golem on the Planet now known as Babil, and furthermore research shield generators mkII, normal and hardened. One per type are built on KADESH and Babil, and with the need to either focus the economy on the first Golem or to take the remaining systems due south, I retire for the night.

Yea, FRD is fun (and fairly appropriate for the shrooms) but I usually get the most out of the tiger by sending them in FRD and just tapping ctrl+, (or the control group of the producing space docks, if I set one) and right clicking the next thing I want to be used as a scratching post.

One technique I use is to FRD the units AT the next target, so they'll CF that target and then FRD normally until I get around to directing them again.  Very useful for those 1/2 Ion Cannons and then let x troops wreck the planet/find juicy things to eat.

I use imgur. It converts everything to .jpg's so you lose a little quality in the compression, but the site is really straightforward.

Following some uneventful wave attacks that unfortunately still proved a certain need for increased defensive investments, I resolved to research Basic Turret mkII and mkIII as well as Heavy Beam Turret. The three are built all over. Furthermore, due to a sudden loss of all economic maneuverability, I research Crystal Harvester mkII.

Aside from this, enemy planets not needed at the moment are eaten clear by the Tigers and work on the regenerator Golem continues. I briefly consider fully neutering some planets to prevent incoming waves, but ultimately prefer to use my resources on something other than a whipping boy.
