Hi, I'm newly registered but have been following this game's development.
I've bought the pre-order and I'm mostly having a blast with it. I had to make second world unfortunately because I managed to completely wreck my settlement's economy. Introducing the food check for saving people was a very good idea!

I have encountered one or two potential bugs. I don't know if these have been mentioned yet.
1) transmogrifying back to human from bat too close to a wall or ceiling gets your character completely stuck within said wall or ceiling. This is especially hard to avoid if you're trying to change back in a tight corridor. The only solution I found to get unstuck is to warp scroll out.
2) on more than a couple of occasions I have entered a boss room, the "there is a boss here" message(s) pop up but there is no boss in the room (this is inside the rare commodity towers).

One or two things I have come across regarding game balance:
Turning into a bat makes everything (especially boss fights) way way easier. The extra damage you take is just not enough of a penalty compared to how much easier it is to dodge attacks. If I'm paying attention, I will never be hit by the big robot or the dragon. The amoeba is a little harder to dodge, but as long as you keep your distance its still fine.

Overall, this game is fantastic and has a lot of potential. I can't wait to see what's to come!

Yeah, we know about those bugs, but thanks for reporting them!

Balance is definitely something that needs work, that will come with time.

Welcome to the forums!  And glad you're having so much fun. :)

Both of those bugs are already reported in mantis, I think.  Although the bat one is not to my knowledge; I don't recall if there's actually a damage penalty at the moment for that.  It might be that we need to make you automatically pop out of being a bat if you enter a boss room.  That could be thematically explained, and it would make boss fights a lot more consistently balanced if you couldn't transform into other things while in there.  But the bat is just too cool for a lot of other parts of the game, of course.


Another way to go would be to have the bosses emit some sort of field that damages the bat.  So you CAN stay the bat, but it kills you every 10 seconds unless you can somehow heal faster than that.  Humans would be avoid to the "ambient evil damage" or whatever, but the bat wouldn't be.  That might be an even better way to handle it, since it's consistent with the ambient heat and cold.

Thoughts?  I think that one is worth going on mantis with a fairly high priority (Josh).

I haven't actually played with the bat spell yet, so I may be misjudging this. But maybe the bat form could be limited to a navigational tool, preventing you from casting spells until you revert to human form? Up to this point, I had actually assumed it worked like that - I believe the one Castlevania game I've played a bunch of (Dawn of Sorrow) uses that restriction for its "turn into a bat" spell. Dunno if it would make sense in AVWW.

But I like fighting the boss bats as a bat, it's some much fun for a tiny little bat to beat up two larger bats. I suppose it is best for the balance of the game though.

Yeah, it may make boss fighting easier because of the easiness to move in the spaces, but the extra damage (if so, I didn't noticed a big or huge change to how much damage I took) would compensate for it. Besides, you can't use the bat form outside without getting enviromental damage, depending on the region you are (applies for the Ice age and Lava Flats regions).

A suggestion would be to reduce in some way the effectiveness of the spells, wheter it would be in power, casting speed, or something else. Maybe even restricting which spells could be cast in bat form. Another suggestion would be to make the bat larger.

Or the bat could have its own bat-specific spell(s). Maybe a low-damage bite attack, which also sucks a tiny bit of HP from target if it's a living/organic one. Or something like that.
