Would it be possible for an enemy to follow you?
« on: September 29, 2011, 02:11:38 am »
Would it be possible to eventually have enemies that follow you room to room or would it be very difficult to do in this game?

I keep thinking that it would make an interesting use of the buildings if certain enemies could follow you through doors, but the way the game appears to handle moving from room to room makes it seem like such a thing might be rather difficult or awkward.

Just think...would you like a big bad boss to start following you on a rampage.  ;)

Not a bad idea for minor monsters, though it would get annoying considering how often they spawn.

Better yet: a boss who gets mad if you run and spawns an angry mob on the world map to come after your settlement!

Something along those lines is something that we could simulate -- it's complicated by multiplayer more than anything else. It's the sort of thing I'd like to do, eventually, and actually there's some stuff in mantis already about "bounty hunters," which is basically this sort of thing.

It would be pretty cool if you eventually added a "rival" or "evil nemesis" of sorts. An enemy who would stalk you and who you would encounter occasionally and would grow with you as well.

The enemies already have names so maybe it would be interesting to have a more unique enemy that you would encounter repeatedly but would always try to escape rather than fight to the death. Perhaps it could gain abilities as you gain levels and pick up new spells in the process and whenever you run into them they have a chance of pulling out a random new spell or trick they recently picked up (or swap out a certain spell for another one).
It could be like a "super villain" counterpart of sorts to your player character "super hero" that you keep having to repeatedly beat into submission.  :D

That sounds like a great suggestion for mantis. :)
