Health Potions
« on: October 07, 2011, 08:14:12 am »
I always have tons of mana potions but often lack the health ones. Is this just me or anyone else thinking that getting health potions is a bit of a grind. What i means is by the time I find one health potion I get beat up by the trash mobs that I need to use it when I find it. Jade dust and health scrolls is whats keeping me alive, but I don't know how long will that last. Thoughts?

I think if we can get rooms populated with more than one sometimes, that would go a long way to fixing this.

Also, more intelligently populated - so a big maze room might have two of its smaller chambers furthest from the lowermost (uppermost?) entrance full of goodies.

Same here. I never lack of mana potions (always got more than 20) but I struggle a lot for health ones. I don't ask for a constant flow of health potions (the game would be too easy if we never run out of health pot) but I think this part could use a little tweaking. ;)

Yea, it seems strange that nice huge cool rooms are generated, but then have pretty much nothing in them. Especially jarring when there are nice long hallways that lead to nothing, not even a door or potion or anything. I know this is a risk with procedurally generated areas, but this seems to be the rule, not the exception.

I don't think it's inevitable for the procedural nature however - there just needs to be some intelligence in the seeding of doors and goodies which takes it into account.

(I say "just"...)

Having essentially given up on buildings as boring (Towers aside), I use Scrolls exclusively for both healing and mana, It's not as if there is really a difference between potions and scrolls, so why would you expect to NOT be able to use scrolls?

That said, can't comment on drop rates for potions

Exactly this. Honestly, with the removal of the profession books buildings feel rather pointless right now. I haven't gone in one in probably 8-10 levels on my civ level 31 world. Not counting the commodity towers, of course - those are still really cool (as are overlord towers - love the layouts there). Potion grinding through normal buildings isn't fun and doesn't give you exp, while delving into caves gives you all sorts of neat goodies, so I just go down there and grab some gem dust and turn it into scrolls. It's really easy to sustain yourself this way (and get exp/gems/other goodies at the same time).

I personally would like to see potions reworked, but I'm not sure how. As to buildings not being interesting right now, I'm sure they'll get a lot better - they just need more bosses/special rooms with cool stuff!

I'd like the ilari to give you a couple healing potions to go along with those warp potions they give, personally. Not too many, just 2 or 3.

I also agree that these buildings need more of a point. How about extending them forward into the third dimension creating a barrier with an entrance/exit on either side so that you have to go through some buildings to proceed along the level (unless, of course, you have bat/teleport/it's low enough to ride some lightning over)?

*facepalm* That's genius! I think I tough of that too, but forgot. Yes, scrolls are just as good as potions. I'm gonna go look for green spellstone caverns now, move along :)
