: Will there ever be a AVWW 3?
: johnnyr February 28, 2016, 04:17:14 PM
Has this every been talked about? I loved, loved, LOVED the first one, but the second one just didn't resonate with me (controls and gameplay were a complete departure from AVWW 1).

I love and own just about every arcen game out there, and in light of the recent financial issues, I wonder if it might be wise to go back and revisit a past success? (Maybe not critically, but there was and is still nothing like AVWW 1).

Thanks for listening to me ramble.

I'm not sure AVWW was ever successful enough to warrant a sequel. An interesting game without doubt, but sequel bait? Not really no.

Yep, that one pretty much is dead in the water I think.  We got burned pretty hard on the financials with that one, and it still has yet to break even.  Doing the sequel for free didn't help matters, but still.  This is just my opinion, but I have the impression that a lot of people hear the name A Valley Without Wind and associate that with disappointment -- there was a lot of hype and excitement prior to its release, and I think it didn't live up to that for a lot of people.

I'm in awe of seeing that any game made with good intentions have at least one people loving it. Even the financially worst game, provided it was crafted for a sincere purpose, will find even the tiniest loving community.

Keep up, Arcen. Keep doing sincere games.

I really appreciate it -- and you bet, we will.

I actually enjoyed the first AVWW. Could never really get into the second. Unfortunately though the second came at a time where I was in seriously bad mental health so that could have something to do with it.

It just didn't have the longevity of AIW. At least not to me. But it's a nice exploration based shmup-ish game.

I loved the first game , i think rushing to the second game while everyone was still getting to grips with the first one , doomed it . I actually even forgot about the series for years , came across the arcen kickstarter recently was disappointed they wanted to do another series game than a valley without wind 3, i think this one still has a lot of potential . If they can make a solid game.

I would play in the third part really willingly. How the situation looks after five months? Maybe there is some new information?

From my understanding, the current plan for Arcen is to work on AI War 2 full time for a couple more months, then transition to a time where Keith is still working on it, but Chris and Blue are working on a virtual reality title. And then there were some plans for a 3D survival game awhile ago that I'm not sure what the current status is. Plus, perhaps some lingering interest in finishing SBR. So, I see no AVWW3 in the foreseeable future.

Of course, I'm not a dev, so that could all be wrong  ;). It would be interesting to hear about current long term plans for Arcen  :D

That sums it up pretty well, yes.  To some extent long-term plans have to be fluid because of how the market is constantly changing, and because we see either success or failure in specific areas and thus pursue (or do not pursue) them.  I've had a number of behind-the-scenes deals in discussion with some third parties since November, but none of them have worked out in the short term; two of them might lead to something in more like a year or after, but it's hard to say for sure.
