Why is there an "equip new spell menu"?

You can equip every unlocked spell you have and there are no disadvantages to this, right?  Is it just to save clutter in your inventory?

Moslty, yes. For example, I moved to a new continent, so my fancy T5 spells stopped working, and I threw them away. When I got back to the first continent, I just equipped them again.

Oh, I see!  I haven't finished a continent yet, forgot that would be an issue.

Yep, there is that.  But also, you may want more than one copy of a spell.  Since you can swap hotbars, you might want three copies of fireball to put one copy in each hotbar, if that's your main offensive spell.  So the equip spells thing lets you really customize in that way.  And eventually when we have tons of spells, you're very much not going to want to carry everything with you all the time. ;)
