Where do you find stuff now?
« on: July 01, 2012, 07:33:51 pm »
I like the latest patch (1.108), but I can't find a lot of crap I need now.  I don't know if i'm just an idiot and don't know where to look, or what.  Stuff like wind shelters only seem to come from secret missions - is that right?  of course I could always buy them but that gets expensive fast.  And the more exotic crafting materials like deep magma - the tooltip says they come from stash rooms, but I've had no luck so far finding even one, and you need several to craft just one spell.  Luckily with the random spell missions on the world map it's not so hard to find spells without crafting.  Shelters and buoys are my real roadblock now.

Pretty much ev ery secret mission I find has a wind tower in it, and I've got a couple buoys too. This is in a fresh game in which I only just killed my first lieutenant.

Crafting mats seem to be pretty rare, but at the moment I haven't found any real need to craft spells instead of do missions for them, other then flash of light because that one is really useful.

Shelters and bouys, yeah... secret missions. As for the magma, if you are on the first continent, you'll find it in stash rooms in the desert. If you are past the first continent, you can find it in the lava flats more than the desert.

It feels to me like some of the numbers need changing, for how rare/not rare things are.

In particular, it's not JUST crafting materials that appear in stashes now, there's also lots of the new things that players will be wanting later, the profession books, the "gift items", and stuff of that nature.  AND, there's also the stuff that was ALWAYS there.... Shards, platforms, crates, Glyph Transfer Scrolls, Elusion Scrolls, and the various different area-specific things like Moon Lamps or the Dino transmogrify scrolls.   And I still think Platforms and Crates are way, way, WAY too common.   I have 10 squillion platforms.... I dont really need to find more currently.  Heck, I often wonder WHY the Opal store has those 2 things at all, considering how absurdly common they are.

Anyway, the more possible stuff there is, the more rare any given thing becomes, by the current system.

At the same time though,  I wouldnt want them to be common enough that I'd ever really have a major surplus of the things, as that breaks down their importance.   And I know the current version of the game has an entire set of mechanics that ARENT fully in place yet (the citybuilding bits, and stuff like being able to send other survivors on missions to get stuff, or whatever it is you send them to do).   So that might be affecting it as well, the current balance may be more geared towards the point when that's all put in place.

Balance? What balance? :) We definitely need to go though and re-adjust the frequency numbers on that stuff.

Really? I thought it was balanced before, you know, taking 3 hours to find White Witch Hair. ;)

I agree that wood platforms and boxes are far too common and maybe should be taken out of the stash rooms to make room for other things.

I don't want to see platforms and crates completely removed. Mostly because I'm cheap and I don't like buying anything ever. :) But, they certainly could stand to be less common.

Man up and start spending those shards! What good is 100,000 shards, 100,000 platforms and 100,000 crates if you can't craft spells because of lack of resources? ;D

Who needs spells when you can crush the overlord keep under the weight of 100,00 crates?
