What level is your civilization? What have you done so far?
« on: October 02, 2011, 06:05:35 am »
Just wondering how far people have gotten at this stage. (Your achievements) Also how many settlements are you in control of? How many lieutenants and overlords have you slain? (or is the number too high to count now?)

At the moment my civilization is level 17 and I have control of two settlements. An ice age settlement called "Mahbakk" (Mah-back) and a pre-industrial settlement called "Lithaven" (Leh-ta-ven) (They're my babies :3 [/sad])

I've only slain one lieutenant so far (tough battle he had over 100'000 HP :S) and I haven't defeated the overlord yet.

I started a second world because of that chunk generation issue that was in a previous version and left me a screwy chunk level distribution.

In this second world I'm at civ level 13 or so (gained three of them from killing one lieutenant) and have four settlements IIRC. All of them ice age I think. Also I got a ton of spells unlocked after scouring through some high level chunks for skill books, in one that was 8 levels above me I found a spellbook in every single library.

Also reached level 13 now have 3 settlements would have been four but an army of vengeful ghost wiped it out. Still have the settlement with no population. Taken out one lieutenant and scout 3 more and an overlord so building up slowly. Really enjoying the game although early game is a bit of a learning curve.

The game really comes alive as more terrain and interesting features are revealed loving it so far and looking forward to what the future will bring.

29 now. Got countless settlements and unlocked all crafting recipes that are currently in the game. I just killed my first overlord.

Made some good progress since my last post.

Now level 26 and have six settlements. (Mahbakk, Lithaven, Ettavale, Dwingington, Auburo, Frosalke) Probably the last time I'll list them all. :P

As for spells I haven't really found many spellbooks out in the wild. Although I have level 3 ice cross which is doing me fine for the moment.

Killed a bunch of liuetenants, the amount of xp they give you is unreal. Can't imagine how much you'll get from killing an overlord!

I'm level 15, have two settlements and a dozen or so wind shelters. I've learned all the spells bar day-to-night and night-to-day ones. Three lieutenants down. And I've died... a lot.

Finally reached Civ-lvl 100 (yep, 100) and super-happy about it right now :-)

First of all: thanks Arcen staff for making such a great game! Has been a long time since
I've played a game as great as this one.
(And also thanks for making this thread which kept me going from where I originally wanted
to stop playing to this moment)

But let's come to the way I've taken so far in this wonderful (can't say it often enough) game:

Up until about lvl 20 or so I spent alot of my time fighting minibosses in rare commodity
towers (didn't realize how to get higher spell-ranks until then... so yea... the fights were really
pretty long...)

Besides that I always tried to have as many tiles scouted as possible (see:all) so when I wasn't
right in an epic boss-battle (or farming potions for them) I was sure to be found in one of my
settlements building up a nice place to live at with my little npc-friends).

Once I overcame my fear about going to the underground areas things changed quite a lot, however
(First underground areas were still about 10 lvls lower than me):
Equipped with my new, powerful, "high" rank spells i felt ready to tackle some lieutenants an finally
even an overlord or two.

When I hit lvl 40 I felt the need for another ->deep going<- change as I didn't find anything left to
accomplish (that I actually felt like accomplishing) with overlords only beeing time-consuming and not
offering enough reward to keep me interested in them and my settlements being built up (biggest
settlement had about 25 inhabitants and most of the other ones about 10-15).

So i decided to explore the underground-areas a bit more. They seemed to have just the right
difficulty now and I could find everything I needed down there (dust for healing- and mana-
scrolls, "stones" to keep my spells on acceptable lvls...), most importantly also bat-bosses that
I could kill _at the same time_ I was farming all the required stuff - quite comfortable.

Well, time passed and lvls came almost by themselves while I was venturing through the deepest
depths AVWW has yet to offer (which I've found) with me now finally reaching my "long" awaited
goal: Civ-lvl 100

Although I've already spent so much time playing it the game is still as exciting for me to play as
when I did my first steps in it.

Again: great job Arcen staff and I'm looking forward to many many more great updates that, hopefully,
will come for AVWW!

And sorry for torturing you all with such a long post but I just couldn't hold back my excitement
anymore.

I don't think I got any for it.

What's the secret to the higher spell ranks I think I'm in the same boat you were. Stuck at 15 taking on mini-bosses.

It definitely pays to be daring, I spent a good while at first going up against bosses many levels below me.....but you really get nowhere quickly with that. Usually now I try to take on a boss either the same level as me or a level above or below me. If I pack enough health potions and try to stick close to the exits for emergency withdrawals it normally turns out well.

Except the dragons can be lethal with their fire breath. (It's particularly difficult to defeat them when they're guarding a resource and the end up walking around in the surface undergrounds where the battle area can be pretty tight)

Higher level spell gems get you higher level spells. Gem levels go up based on the level of the cave network that you find them in. The game could probably do a bit more towards explaining this to you up front.

Isn't it in the tutorial messages?

As an aside it strikes me that caving is far too efficient way of spending your time. Caves contain Bosses,Gems and Health\Mana drops all in a much larger quantity than anywhere else, with the added bonus of the boss always being the fairly easy Bats, i generally end up levelling 3 or 4 times per cave system before i get bored or feel the need to get different coloured gems and move to a different cave system

I find caves seem more likely to contain shards rather than hp/mana potions. So it's not possible to stay down there indefinitely. But then, with the hundreds of health and mana scrolls I can craft from dust after exploring a few caves containing the right color of gem, it is possible to stay there for a long time. Mostly I just leave when I get tired of constantly fighting shadow bats.
