I can agree that caves are a little on the long side.

As for the perks though.... alot of that is going to depend on the difficulty level.   On Adept, which is to me pretty easy, the things didn't seem very important.   But on higher ones.... yeah.  NEED them.  Not getting those things, and thus not having the options and power that they give, is just asking for a whole lot of deaths on the higher difficulties.

As the coins go.... honestly, they seem a little extraneous to me.  Like, they're in the game again now, but I'm kinda lost on the point of the things, as they ONLY appear from bosses.  The mercenary thing seems mostly forgettable at this point.  Heck, I usually forget the things even exist until a boss pops and spits them out, and then afterwards I forget again.
It has occurred to me that I may need to bump up the difficultly a notch or two.  The problem is that it feels plenty hard toward the start until I get the second tier of spells, and then gets progressively easier to the point of being trivially easy by the end of the game.  I actually have used the coins to skip the darn robotic towers.

One thing that perplexes me (way too late to change though). Is why the tundra area is relatively easier... When you can't actually go there right away until you're fairly powered up due to the cold dispersion tower requirement.

Never really noticed it was an easier biome till I saw it spelled out.

Aye, the difficulty scaling does seem a bit off in that regard, and is pretty noticable.   It should be getting harder by the endgame, not easier...

Heh, I guess when we nerfed the scaling we went too far, eh? Should be fairly easy to change. Thank you guys for this, this is IMMENSELY helpful feedback.

To clarify a bit more, the issue specifically seems to be that attack power of spells is scaling much more quickly than monster health as you move up tiers.  I think monster attack power vs. player health is probably okay.

Thanks for the clarificaton. That's what I had assumed, but, it's nice having confirmation. I think the easiest thing to do programatically is to up how fast monster health scales.

Question for you 1.) Do you have a world that you've played pretty deep in that you've got saved? If so, could you send me your WorldEventLog.txt file from that world? Misery, if you have one, or more than one, that would be great.

If you don't have that, could you at least tell me what difficulty you are playing on?

Thanks!

Here's the file from the game I just finished (and actually played  a few turns past finished for the heck of it).  Difficulty was Adept/Rook.

We need a constant, obnoxious beeping sound whenever our health gets below a certain value.

Going old-school does not mean we have to thave the bad parts in too!

In all seriousness, a low health indicator would be nice.

Just make it an obvious beeping (not annoying, just noticeable) at the start and then fade it to inaudibility, or nearly so, over a few seconds. Some old school games did this. One of the Zeldas maybe? I forget. I always thought it was the best option. You know there's something to worry about, but you don't have to deal with BEEP BEEP BEEP forever if there's no handy health nearby. Although in this game you should almost always be able to go kill something for some extra HP, so it wouldn't be as bad as running around in Zelda 1 listening to a beep for 10 screens because nothing wants to drop a heart. I KNOW MY HP IS LOW, GAME, STOP BLAMING ME FOR IT; YOU'RE THE ONE THAT WON'T DROP A HEAL FOR ME! Ahem.
