I've played a bit of the strategic game, and although I like the new movement system and the removal of stacking, I can't really say it's that much improved yet. NPCs are completely interchangeable, so if anything, the metagame has been streamlined into "Put characters on resources, move characters away if Daemonica is going to get them, daisy chain survivors into resources or just recruit so many survivors that it becomes a non-issue". It's got rather a lot of artificial RNG difficulty, which usually falls under tactics, not strategy.
We have random steamroller, our entire game still revolves around reacting to the random steamroller. The strategic aspect really comes more deciding where to explore, gambling, and hoping to win big. I don't really think the steamroller isn't particularly interactive nor interesting in itself. I tried tossing a tasty survivor sacrifice at Daemonica when he was heading for a farm and it didn't do a thing.
