Time for a few more questions!
« on: April 04, 2012, 10:48:26 pm »
Thanks again for all the help lately.

1.  What is the point of graves?  I don't always pay attention but they seem to be all anonymous.  Am I missing something?

2.  Tiers in dungeons.  Does each level correspond with the same level in tier or does it scale up with the continent.  In other words, is level 1 always tier 1, 2 tier 2, or does it eventually become 2 on the first level, 3 on the next when you continent level increases?

3.  I was able to build 1 building.. the techzoolist or something, but I really see no benefit and it takes a ton of resources.. plus, continents seem to level so easily(5 missions), that it seems like a waste to even build buildings.  Again, what am I missing?

4.  Seems like it makes sense to stay on tier 1 to grind enchants.  Does this make sense?  It gets a bit boring, but I just figure it'd be most easy now.  Most enchants seem cruddy.. I have a 15% damage reduction, 10% detection deduction, and +5% light power.  I just got a new one that was the same, but 1 less light... It does continue to get better very slowly right?

5.  I turned on V-sync because of tearing, and it gets very hard to see the cursor in some environments, which makes aiming difficult.  Is there a way to make a different, larger icon?  Or some other way to see where you are aiming?  Aiming in the pyramids can be awful difficult right now.

Thanks!

I'm a big noob, so someone with more experience please correct me if i'm wrong, but I will answer to the best of my ability.

1. Not sure, the ones in the intro seem to set the mood as well as teach you a few game mechanics. The later anonymous ones seem to be there for flavor.

2. I'm not 100% sure on this one, I just deleted my tier 5 continent but I think continent tier sets the minimum tier for the caverns, so if your continent is tier 3, then caverns of depth 1-3 are all tier 3, then depth 4 is tier 4, etc.

3. Buildings allow you to use higher level guardian powers, so if you don't have the required buildings then you won't be able to use certain guardian powers.

4. I grind a bit on each tier but I think higher tier enchants drop more on higher tier continents. *** thx TyberZann, guess I was wrong

5. If you disable the ingame cursor and use your default windows cursor, you can choose whatever cursor you want in windows and it will appear in game. I use one of these two for AVWW.

Let me see if I can answer something.

1. Graves in the tutorial teach you things. Every other grave is just flavor. They were actually added outside of the tutorial as a bug but were liked so much that they were kept in.

2. The tier of the continent shows the minimum tier of the enemies. Most areas the enemies will be the same tier as the continent. Areas like deep underground or in the lieutenant areas may be higher tier though.

3. The resources that are used on settlement buildings are completely separate from your crafting resources so it doesn't really matter if it cost a lot. Settlement buildings are prerequisites for certain guardian powers. Each guardian power requires you to have a NPC in your settlement with a certain profession, and for you to have all the buildings in your settlement needed to make that profession high enough level for that power. This can be useful for later like for building wind shelters.

4. Grinding enchants is not the way to go. You will generally pick them up naturally as you play. The overlord and lieutenants will also drop enchants. The tier of the continent has no effect on the power of the enchants though. If you really find the need to grind enchants I find the best places would be modern ruins and pyramids.

5. Xeph above has answered this one better than I can since I just use the game cursor.

The enchantments seem to level extremely slowly.   After getting 100+ of them so far, I've found that maybe out of every 15-20 new enchantments, one will be an incremental improvement I will use.  And I still have yet to find any head-slot enchantments.  Do those have to be unlocked or something?

I don't have tearing problems and I'm not running vsync, but I'm also finding the cursor is sometimes hard to find.  Especially in the pyramids.  It's like the cursor is camoflaged.  I'd rather not use the Windows cursor, though - I really like the AVWW one.   It's just that at 1920x1200 resolution, it's rather small.  An optional larger one with maybe a bit more contrast would be really helpful.

I got an enchant that gives a powerslide ability but tells of no way to activate it...Any ideas?

I think graves should be removed.  They are far too frequent and add nothing.

I was going to add a new mantis suggestion to have at least some of the graves have some text beyond just the same "Here lies Anonymous" or whatever message.
And even if that is done, I would agree that their spawn rate should go down, and possibly a small chance for them to spawn outside a stash room. I would like them to stay though, as they do add "flavor" to the world.

I've always assumed their current text is just placeholder.

This.

We have the thread in the brainstorming sub-forum for epitaths. The plan is to move that stuff into the graves. :)

I think for those, you crouch while running. That's how it used to work by default, but got moved to enchant functionality. I haven't found one myself.

Thanks!

Also, does your stockpile carry over to the next continent?

Your basic inventory carries over, along with your enchants and enchant progress. Everything in your basic inventory, (spell gems, platforms, crates, upgrade stones etc.) will carry over, but spell will all revert to Tier 1 (or even locked).

Your resources, building materials, shards, ingredients etc. are left behind on the continent they were found. If you go back, you could still use these resources there.
