This is getting ridicoulus and something else
« on: October 17, 2012, 05:01:37 pm »
That achievement requires you to get 30 upgrades for your Settlement.
I got 11 by now and I am doing a lot of missions to respawn new ones, but I think since I moved my world to Level 2 I am unable to find any more upgrades.
So how does this work? Do I have to kill the overlord and go into NG+ to get more? Do you keep the old ones?
Would be nice of anyone could shed some light.

And since I don't want to make a new topic about that question:
How often do you have to reroll to get the legendaries? At what level do they drop?

I am asking those questions because I try to 100% the achievements on Steam.

Not all of the settlement upgrades unlock until you play at least three continents -- check the unlockables, and as you unlock more and more you'll get more settlement scrolls.

Regarding the legendaries, those drop at any level and you can't influence them.  But given a reasonable amount of time (enough time to do the other achievements) you'll wind up with those.

Thanks or your answer Chris:).
Bought the game on release, played a bit, did not understand it and then got sidetracked by other things. But now I am really getting into it.
I play it now since 3 consecutive days (well not in one piece :D).

Slightly unrelated but if you ever get into AI War, be very careful about your achievement lust. ;)

Nah, I kinda gave up on that. So much multitasking required, rather a game for a woman I think :D.
Maybe I get it one day on a sale or so, just because it is so complex... I don't know :D. I tried the demo but I never really got into it somehow.

In the case that it's too complex well... I'd say maybe avoid it if you really don't think you can handle it, but I actually got used to it. You might almost say it's like playing a collectable card game? There are so many rules, exceptions, and creatures, that you can't truly know everything about it without playing it for hundreds of hours. It takes a long time to know what all the game can throw at you, and I'm sure everybody's gone through the phases of 'I don't know what this is or how to deal with it' their own dozens of times.

It is not like I can't play complex games - I play Anarchy Online (although having a break atm) and the difficulty there is not getting the items, but equipping them :D.
So I am used to complex games kinda, but I feel like AI War is way over my head, dunno why.

Oh, don't worry about that. I remember reading about the developers being bested by their own game's own AI.

If you'd like to play AIW in a less complex way, you can play multiplayer in either the helper role (base game, just focus on controlling one fleet of the main player's units, or just the defenses, or something like that) or the champion role (ancient shadows expansion, just fly your one champion ship around the galaxy making messes the main player has to clean up) :)

, just fly your one champion ship around the galaxy making messes the main player has to clean up) :)

I have a friend who does that. He actually once asked my "Why I wasn't taking some systems when there's no reason not to take them". Then he attempted to carve a route all the way to the homeworld, killing all the CCs on the way there.

-_-
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

He was well-compensated by the AI, I assure you.

I admit, despite doing 9/9 runs or even higher, I still tell my ally upfront if I'm a champion only person

"Listen, when that nasty wave or CPA comes, I'll be there to defend you. But unless you keep me in the loop, I'm going to smash AI things that don't cause AIP directly, so you will have a lot of threat"

It speeds games up, but my partner may not expect the globs of threat...
Life is short. Have fun.

The trick with AI War is to play it on the lower difficulties.  The scale goes from 1-10 for a reason.  The game and FAQs tell you that 7 is normal difficulty, but that's only because Chris Park make a pact with Satan, who feeds off the suffering of new players getting utterly violated by the AI and grows ever stronger.   When you play on 7, you're actually hastening the coming of the apocalypse.

So don't play on difficulty 7.

5 is a good difficulty.  If you play the game on difficulty 5, you'll get to fly around the galaxy and see neat things, and have cool battles with tons and tons of ships.  The final battle against the enemy home station in AI war is one of the coolest things in any game, ever, with thousands of your ships battering against the command station's shields, and a single barrage of its cannons wiping out dozens of your own frigates.  Totally worth the cost of admission, and you're cheating yourself if you don't see it.
