Hello! my thoughts on AVWW
« on: November 28, 2012, 09:24:39 am »
Hi! my name´s Vatticson and I'm new to the forums (you don´t say)! :)

Let me tell ya` a story:

Long time ago (some months) I was wandering through Steam, looking for games and stuff. Then in some webpage (maybe Destructoid?) i´ve read something of a game called A Valley Without Wind.

Ok, so i´ve tried the demo at that time, played some minutes... The game felt weird. It was like some kind of Commodore Amiga game to me (i never had one, my cousin did), and overall, i didn´t liked the game so much, i was pretty lost because i didn´t read the help text into the game and the english is not my best, so the game felt a little boring to me...

...but, i did liked one thing: the atmosphere. The music and the setting had some "otherworldy" feeling i liked so much :D ("otherworldy" things like Trance music are my favorite things in this world :P). The graphics are like some kind of weird collage (did read this on a web and i agree) of graphics like Rise of the Robots snes game (don´t get me wrong, just the graphic, because the game was aaaawfuul!)

So, here we are, November. Steam Autumn Sales. I had some money i wanted to spend, and i dont know why but i´ve bought this game with my eyes closed, simple as that. Despite the fact that i thought the game was boring (note that i didn´t passed through the Red Slime :P) and it had something like a 54 on Metacritic, i was somewhat sure this game had deeper gameplay, and i like "Metroidvania" games, and THAT special setting. Also i´ve read you give AVWW 2 for free if you have the first one : P.

The Result? I´ve played at the moment for 2 hours. Passed the Red Slime (yyyeeeaaah!!!) and wow, I'm liking it! I didn´t knew you could buy a city and explore a huge map full of regions.

And of course the atmosphere!! ^^

Another thing i have to tell. This is the first game I play which has a multiplayer mode that i don´t mind, because i still have so much fun with the single player mode! (other games that have multiplayer modes makes me like playing single vs the machine is worthless).

To sum up, u guys did a great job! i would like to play more if i had less work to do. A lot more. I hope ur second game gets even much better! :D

See ya!

PS: I wish AVWW2 will have some unique atmosphere too, and that art update for AVWW doesn´t "destroy" part of this magic ;).

PS2: My first character got stucked in a destroyed room ¬¬ so i had to start a second one. NVM!! just had 1 hor of gameplay when that happened.

Welcome to the forums.

I'm also glad you liked it, but I do want to point out one thing. We're actually no longer doing the art upgrade for AVWW. We went ahead and decided to take that art and use it for the sequel instead, so AVWW's art will remain unchanged.

I think you'll like AVWW2, it's really coming together nicely. It's not quite feeling like a game yet, but man, it's getting really close. I won't speak for the rest of the staff here, but I know I'm really excited for it.

Either way, you get the sequel for free for having bought the first game.
