Swimming (possible spoiler)
« on: March 29, 2012, 07:00:24 pm »
Is there a swimming enchant and is it available on the first continent?
I've searched this forum and haven't seen anything definitive on that.
I've been farming enchants for the better part of this week looking for this thing, I want to get the coral unlock.
Maybe I'm chasing rainbows, no, yes, maybe? ;D

There is a gills enchant that makes you immune to the acid damage, but nothing that lets you "swim" or jump infinitely in water.

There is always platform riding though. Just place a platform in the water and it will float. You can keep jumping on it and ride it all the way to the top!

Further there is a "good swimmer" version of the acid gills enchant that improves your speed whilst moving through water.

Does the Advanced Heat Suit also stop movement impairment in water as well as lava?

Yes

It definitely improves it. I'm not sure it is supposed to though.....

Crates are the smoothest way to ride up in water.

I also see that not all Ocean Shallows caverns are  entirely underwater, the first one I entered was completely flooded from top to bottom, got too many ghosts in that one, the next one I found is different and so far has very little water.

Yeah, we've been changing those up quite a bit.

So there's no swimming?  I'm confused because the message box that pops up when you enter an ocean sqaure says "Don't jump out unless you know how to swim"  The red color making me think that swimming is a special ability or enchantment you must get.  And given the game's generally lethal nature, I find myself fairly reluctant to experiment on such things.

Ya there is no swimming, though it should be changed to "Don't jump in without your gills" or something that way it wont be as confusing to new players.

Well, there's "good swimmer" as above, but the sort of swimming you do is very much like walking but underwater.

The closest thing to swimming right now is using Storm Fist underwater, which actually works so well that I suspect it may be "fixed" now that I've mentioned it.  :P

Man, I want to go home and try that. There are so many great spells I don't get the chance to play with because I just hate rearranging my inventory. I really want the "add 10 bars of keyboard bindings" feature added. I would be able to play with all these great spells at my finger tips!
