Actually, given all the changes that have come to the game lately, could we have another look at getting sucked into storm regions like oceans? One of my favorite things I've done in the game is struggling across a sea inlet when the pylon period had cut my continent in half, and I'd really like that kind of experience to be a part of overland journeys too.  I think it does contribute to the sense of traveling through a large and dangerous world.

I'm not sure how inclined I am on that one, it's not the right time just at the moment.  But the idea does hold some interest.  I'm just not sure how much that would interfere with other things (I suspect quite a bit), and the way you build wind shelters is changing completely today as well, so really not the time to start messing with the windstorms at the same time, heh.

I'm happy to wait and talk about this when missions and things are a bit more stable, but I think it might not create too many big problems --- it would be a huge change to the pace of the game, but I think at the minute you're able to get things done a bit too simply and easily and it might be an improvement.  Especially if wind shelters are going to be broken out from missions, I'd personally enjoy having the sense of having to make a difficult journey to get to the tower or to bring aid to my allies in battle or whatever.

Anyway I get that you've got a larger plan which this might not fit into, so I'll let this point lie now, but I hope we can get something in the game later that feels like making a long journey over land.

I'm not sure how this would work, so I didn't really want to make a mantis for it...

but how about a situation in a mission where you have to run away from something? Sort of like how in indiana jones he has to run away from a large rolling boulder or something similar.

Or like in sabrewulf (for gba)

Where you retrieved a treasure and then had to run back to the start away from the wolf. It might be interesting for travelling deep in caves you might come across a treasure that triggers some powerful entity to hound you until you reach a specific point.

Another thought is with a wario gba game:

When he retrieves the key wario has to run back to the exit as fast as he can.

Just a thought. For multiplayer you could have a required % of players that need to successful escape the boulder/being to win the mission.

Yep, we plan to do some "escape the rising lava" ones, for one example. :)

I actually was thinking it would be pretty fun to play "escape X" games competitively against other people in multiplayer.
