Strange content in chests
« on: April 12, 2012, 03:56:35 am »
Hello everybody since this is my first post here.

I have been reading posts and wikis for about 2 weeks, trying to understand the feeling of the game and I decided to begin a new world yesterday, following the advises about no completionist, no frustration for my character's death, etc.

After completing my first mission, I decided to explore and abandoned town zone to unlock the "clay unlockable". I found inside a building several chests, but when I open/destroy it, some colorfull lights appeared and came to my character (as green bubbles when you kill monsters) However, those lights didn't give anything to me, and there was no message in the log... What are those colorfull lights?

On the other hand, I have been collenting wood, granite, quartz, etc... and I dont understand the purpose of those resources....

City buildings and city management are things that frustrate me, I don't understand why I need a lumbermancy level 3 and if the wood I collect is about with it....

I know that the final outcome of the game is to free continents by killing overlords, I have to improve my enchantments and spells to do this, but I have a feelling that I am only scratching the surface of a deeper game that I don't understand...

That is all for now.... Sorry about my spelling, English is not my natural tongue.

First of all, welcome!

Regarding chests: Those lights are consciousness shards, which are used in construction and when using guardian powers.

Regarding wood, granite, quartz etc: Those are used both in the city building and spell crafting.

City building and management: Different buildings give different strengths to different professions. For instance, you need a Lumbermancy Focal Station (I think that's what it's called) to be able to use level 3 Lumbermancy powers. You also need a storage and habitation building (or whatever it's called) to use any powers above level 1. It has nothing to do with the wood you collect.

Thanks =).

I don't think so. If I press 'c' key I dont have more consciousness shards in my inventary and even that, no message on the log about a new item take appear. Really, nothing changes except the balls coming to my character....

Ok. =)

Ok, I need a building to use powers like lumbermancy, stonemancy...etc. This building can be builded with guardians scrolls and the required resources (stone, quartz, clay, lava, whatever...). I can get those scrolls completing mission. However, I begin the game with a lumbermancer level 3, stonemancer level 3 and another [..]mancer (sorry, I don't remember his name) and several buildinds in my Hometown. How or when do I work with then. I know there are transmutator scroll that I can use to change my character for other characters in my hometown, but I dont know how to use the lumbermancy/stonemancy/... power in the game...

Thanks a lot for your answers =)...

If they were green balls that floated to you, then they were healing orbs that healed you. :) Those are in chests sometimes too.

You do get a few buildings made for you on the first continent. We did this so it would be a bit less overwhelming for new players.

You don't use the Lumbermancer directly, but having him there allows you to build other buildings. Basically, without the Lumbermancer and the Stonemancer where they are right now, you could hardly build anything. It's less of a thing where you use them, and more about their presence being a pre-requisite for other things.

I asked about this recently also and was told there's supposed to be a message.  (There isn't, so I reported the issue in the Mantis DB.).  But I hadn't checked to see that you actually GET the consciousness shards like you're supposed to.  If you're really sure you aren't receiving them, you should report it as a bug in Mantis.

I've gotten consciousness shards when I've broken chests, at least. It's a really small amount though (perhaps 10 total, distributed between colours seemingly randomly), so it might go unnoticed.
