I once had a cliff -> undergtround area gen in such a way the only way out was to stack ~100 crates, or use this glitch. (or have tripple jump + flatforms, which it was to early in the game to have)

It's a cool way of moving when you work it out, but honestly with platforms as good as they are, it doens't seem too bad to be able to crate jump.

As the one who (I think) originally discovered this trick, I will just say PLEASE keep crate-jumping.  For so many reasons.  For one it brings back feel-good memories of bomb jumping in Super Metroid.  For two, certain areas in the game (one of the ice age areas, I think, generates a huge number of tall cliffs with no backwall) are just no fun to traverse without this mechanic.

For three, it makes for awesome skill contests - one of the more fun things I've done in AVWW is challenge myself to beat blue amoeba without touching the ground by constantly switching between crate jumping and attacking.

I think it works well as one of those undocumented "secret features", much like bomb jumping or energy restore from Super Metroid.

Secret features are fun to have. You find out about it, and then get to surprise other people with it!

Perhaps crates/platforms should not collide with players for a couple seconds after being placed? Or something else to make it so that more timing is required rather than simply spawning the crate under your feet.

It seems like a wonderful quirk to keep in, but based on this discussion it does seem the skill/reward ratio could be tweaked. I haven't tried it myself, but I've experienced something similar with platforms: If you're falling or jumping you can just place one directly under your feet and remove the need to aim your jump.

I definitely think, at least on higher platforming difficulties, that there should be some level of timing and aim involved in hitting a platform or crate in mid air.
