Steam support and future downloads
« on: September 27, 2011, 03:28:58 pm »
Hello! I came in from the topic on Bay 12. First of all, I've been following this game's development for some time. I'm so glad it's finally out now. It was worth the wait.

I have some questions that may be uncomfortable to answer. First of all, when beta is finished, will there be Steam support? Second of all, if there will be Steam support, will me buying this now guarantee me a Steam key for the game when it's released on Steam? This is the make or break problem before I actually put money down on the project.

Thanks for the support!

In terms of the Steam questions, they aren't uncomfortable at all, but I also can't give you a definite answer because it's not Arcen's decision.  If Steam will have us, we'll be on there, and they carry all our other stuff.  So it seems likely, but it's by no means guaranteed.  In terms of will the existing license keys transfer over to Steam, the answer is the same -- all our existing titles do work that way, so it would stand to reason here too, but the ultimate decision is up to Valve and I wouldn't want to be held responsible for them changing their minds for some reason.

If I had to guess, I'd say that the answer is yes on both parts, but I don't want to jinx it. ;)

I can't promise Steam support, because they choose which games they carry. But I will say that they carry all our other games. ;-)

Now, if they do carry it, then yes, your code that you get now will allow you to move your game over to steam, if that is your desire.

Not uncomfortable at all :-)

That's actually not guaranteed either, it has to be specially set up for each title and they don't do it for all titles.  They do it for all of our titles so far, but again I don't want to make promises on Valve's behalf.

Ahhh, ok, I'll remember that.

So I preordered and downloaded the game yesterday (enjoyed the several hours I played immensely, and looking forward to the future updates as more things are implemented), but I had a question related to the license key I was issued.

I installed it on my Windows desktop, and used my license key in the dialogue that popped up when I started the game. I also have a Mac OS laptop that I use for gaming on the go--if I were to install the Mac version on it, would I need to purchase another license key? (I don't particularly have a problem with throwing more money your way, but I wanted to know for sure)

What about if I upgrade/reformat my desktop? Will that require another license key, or is there some way to bind it to…I dunno, my identity or something? Just not sure how it works with respect to deletion/reinstallation or installation across multiple computers I own.

Thanks in advance, and keep up the great work!

Nope, all you'll ever need is one license key, just like all of Arcen's other titles. It will work between mac and pc versions and never runs out of times it can be used.

Based on Arcen Games general policy:

You can install it as many times as needed, over any mixture of platforms, provided it's for your own use.
