However, I'm not holding out much hope for a positive reception at this point. I'm pretty much expecting the controls are going to be a major complaint for this game regardless of the intent. I'm not so sure it's going to be received much better than AVWW 1.

If Arcen can clean house on the platforming gameplay and add some polish to the strategic UI, I think this could be pretty well received. I just hope they haven't killed it by releasing on Steam so early, though.

The thing is, in the end the Steam forums do tend to represent a large portion of the majority as unfair as it is, and in that regard it's not looking very good.

I like the game the way it is, I like the way it's going, and I'm pretty sure by now (barring a major change in direction) that I'm going to like how it will turn out at release.

As cynical as it is, for me I'm pretty much expecting this to be one of those games I play on my own time and not say much about elsewhere.

Hopefully I will be wrong though...

I don't know if steam is the most important forum, but i would consider it at least top 5, if not #2 or #3 in raw views in terms of views (again, for forums, I'm sure review sites still get much more in views)

I very much doubt they've killed it because some people are whining on a notoriously bad forum space. When the game is released it'll be reviewed by a bunch of people, some with a big community behind them (Total Biscuit, for instance, seems to like Arcen quite a bit and he's pretty big in the internet gaming scene, so I would expect a 'WTF is' from him) which will attract a lot of attention. Besides - it's the internet: things are eclipsed from day to day. So some kids flipping out over a beta on a forum probably won't be taken into account six months down the line...
