Just a friendly reminder to please try to keep the language work safe.

Personally, I'm not offended by language like that, and I've even been known to use it sometimes. That said, others are, and I really don't want folks to feel like they can't come to read and/or post on the forums because they were offended by the language.

I'm not sure if you missed the references or if you were serious, so I'm answering in an unusually-serious tone. I'm always giving nice advices to kids. Remember, kids, to NEVER watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre, to NEVER watch The Last House on the Left, and to NEVER, NEVER, EVER watch Twilight.

This is the part where I quote someone in an attempt to look clever? Nah, too mainstream. I used signatures before it was cool.

I didn't actually read all of the post in question but I noticed an example of the f-word, which normally I would edit out or something like that but generally I don't put my mod-hat on unless there's a specific complaint.

The overall drill-sergeant approach to a joke is fine, but any specific NSFW words should be omitted or creatively substituted (not in the sense of "3 instead of E" but like Homer's "THAT! ... will require a tetanus shot" when he stepped on a nail in the swear-jar episode).

Just checked and replaced it with freaks. If you keep saying it's offensive, I'll say you're racist toward circus freaks, and then I'll cover myself with olde carp, and I'll scream "Ah, now we see the violence inherent in the system! Oh! Come and see the violence inherent in the system! Help, help, I'm being repressed!!"

Oh, you have no idea how good the Hybrids are at violence and repression ;)

Because his name is next to the 'badguy' slot in the menu?

The lack of motivation to kill the Overlord is one of these consitant imersion breaking but somewhat amusing things about the game as is. Theres nothing like that first moment you go up to the tower.... And find you don't know what the overlords called, let alone what your fighting it.

Also, what happens after the overlord is killed?  What system of government replaces him?  We assume the overlord is some ultra-repressive Hitler/Mussonlini/Stalin-type fellow.  Who fills the vacuum of his absence?  Maybe the glyphbearer is just clearing the way for some even worse guy to come in and take over.

There are a lot of consequences to regime toppling.  The glyphbearer is being very irresponsible.  Maybe he is the real villian here!

Spoilers:

The twist when you beat the game is that you're the evil overlord all along, and you are enslaving those survivors you "rescue". The overlord was in fact trying to provide sanctuary from you, while using the robots as guards. That's why he never attacks, but you do.

You're the evil overlord all along, one evil overlord across a long line of glyphbearing tiny humanoid evil overlords. Those benevolent amoebas didn't stand a chance against your ability to throw rocks...

I could get behind this, but only if it is one of many random procedurally generated hackneyed endgame plots.

I always feel like he's just hanging out in his castle and we just randomly bust the door down and start smacking him in the face.

I would like to see them (along with the lieutenants) act more aggresive towards the player and do things that are actually tangible. It would be much more satisfying to kill the bad guy when he has actually done something bad to you, not so much when you're just supposed to believe that he's done bad things.

"Divide to Reign".
The Overlord is actually a nice guy. He's just acting as an Overlord to force survivors to cooperate. If he wasn't there, every time shard would be raiding each other, killing the women and raping the warriors. Or the other way around.

By pretending to be evil and stuff, the Overlord is in fact the nicest guy in the game, sacrificing his own life to became "that thing we don't want to see again", while turning glyphs bearers into heroes.
The truth is that, in fact, the Overlord is following the Ilari's orders. The Ilaris' secret plan to enslave mankind is using glyphs bearers as "host". First, they created the Calamity, then they created an Enemy, and then they created Heroes. And when the overlord is defeated, the Hero become an Overseer, leading the settlements, and then the Ilari ASSUMES DIRECT CONTROL and start leading mankind.
A Valley Without Wind is just about you helping the Ilaris to control mankind by destroying the Overlord. And if you decide to fight against the Ilaris instead of helping them to achieve their nefarious schemes, well, accidents happen...

If you don't understand, let me explain again:
The Ilaris are evil 'n' stuff. They created the Calamity, for the lulz. Their next goal is to start oppressing humans, through replaceable leaders. That way, if humans rebels and get rid of their current leader, they can put another one instead to replace the overthrown one.
But in order to unite all the survivors from the differents time shards, they first created the wind, to force the survivors to live together, and then they created the Overlord, to give survivors a reason to stick together. After all, when you know there's an evil guy running around, you don't say "screw you guys I'm going home". Unless you're in a horror movie.

The plan is: once the glyph bearer get rid of the Overlord, the Ilaris will possess the hero, while officially retreat to a higher plane of existence or whatever. Then the human host will start repress the survivors. If he's overthrown, the Ilaris will say something like "ur next boss will born in a stable" or something, but the same thing will happen again and again.
And if your character dies, it's obviously because the Ilaris conspired to kill him.

In other words, my characters are all genius, because they keep dying, and it's never my fault!
