I dunno, I feel like this is something that will improve if they're able to bring loading times down in the future.  As it is, just walking in and out the door takes me like half an minute, which adds up pretty fast when I'm trying to survey a whole town for a few studies.

Good god!  What version are you on, and do you have a save with the stuff in particular?  I've never had that process take me more than 2-3 seconds max, and most of that is just the visual fade in/out.  There was some slowdown from some of the version for some players with it actually generating the interior like 100 times during the fade, but in 0.507 we think that's completely fixed now.

I haven't tried the most recent ones, but in 0.501 or something around there I was having horrible, horrible things like that happening, especially going back and forth between maze rooms.  It wasn't half a minute or anything, but it was easily 5-10 seconds instead of under a second like I was previously used to.  Didn't bother reporting anything after looking on here and seeing comments about it doing that and it getting fixed, and I haven't gotten a chance to see if it's better yet.

Yeah, I noticed that too with the beta, but with one of the recent patches, can't remember which one, my transition loads times are back to what they were in alpha.

Oddly it never did that for me, even when we were having problems with that bug, but it should be fixed now.

Yeah, maze rooms in particular used to have horrible loading times for me. But that got fixed recently, so all is well!

Anyway, skill books: maybe increase the chance of finding a skill book in a study/library, but lower the chance of buildings having these rooms? It's a let down when you see a yellow room on your map, but only find a couple of consciousness shards when you get there.

Also, maybe different skill book types could be associated with different rooms (possibly in different regions?). Maybe crafting books would be found more frequently in blacksmith workshops in medieval times, spellgem books in desert huts... or something like that.

As for the number of yellow rooms with books. I find that the rate is pretty good if I'm in a area that's my level or above. But, even one level lower, the percentage drops drastically.

I just got lucky with an office in an area that was like 8 levels above me. Generally it's always the same types of houses that contain the yellow rooms and usually in roughly the same place. Never bother exploring basements or attics, I've never seen so much as an office branching from those.

The greatest place to find spell books is the deep, I bought the game on release and have been putting about 5 hours a day in, this morning I had found 2 spell books and 1 scroll book in total, after checking out the Deep area's (wierd places that are even more broken than the rest of this world) I ran out of spells to learn, found 12 spellbooks I think in one run, there is usualy 1 library or study, sometimes 2 in each house so a quick run through an area with petty bats and espers (I have been running rouund a level 32 deep area at level 25) and spells are no problem.
In fact I thing something needs to be done because its too easy to grab spell books from Deep area's, they look nasty, drop you into the middle of the map like the ocean, and have a mean descroption, but are by far the easyist region to loot houses in and have the best loot as well. Its practically broken the "have to search out rare spell books" aspect for me when I can peacefully stroll through a time shard where spell books were mass printed and posted through every door for free.
Its a brick!

Was that region a higher level than your civ level?

yeah, I am level 25, and was in a level 32 Deep area, the bats and espers were not a threat, just irritating, and i had no difficulty finding spell books because out of the 2 buildings that spawn in the Deep, the most common is the house which can have 2 library's/studys and no bosses and the other building spawns about once per area, has no library's and does have bosses. Even as a level closer to mine the odds of finding books are higher than anywhere else with no higher risk involved, which is a bit annoying since why bother searching houses anywhere else? The Deep still has potions and dust and shards, it just had many more librarys and studys than anywhere else, and doesnt burn you or freeze you or dump you in a sea of acid to make you work for higher chance of otherwise rare loot
Its a brick!

I imagine The Deep will become a more distinct challenge as the beta matures.

I hadn't seen it mentioned here yet, but I just found my first Book of Spellcasting in an office in a level 1 ice-age zone, so it's not only libraries that have them, though obviously this is rather rare.
