Settlement - what to do there?
« on: March 28, 2012, 01:14:09 am »
OK, I just got through the intro and made my way into the settlement.  I saw the stone that gives missions to do, but what can I do IN the settlement?

It seems like I'm supposed to gather materials to construct things, but how do I construct them?  Is there a place to drop them off?  One of the buildings says it is storage - how do I access this?  Can/should I leave some or the 13 spellgems I found behind to leave more room in my inventory - Is that a concern during exploration that your inventory will fill up and you can't pick up another spell/enchant/resource/etc?

I've read through most of the wiki pages but haven't found much at all about this aspect of the game.

Regarding construction: You will find shape scrolls when doing missions, which can be used from one of the Ilari stones (the one allowing you to use guardian powers) to construct buildings.

Regarding drop-off: You don't need to drop anything off. Anything you collect that is used in construction or spellgem-creation are automagically transferred to a continent-specific storage, and any crafting you do will draw from that storage.

Regarding the storage building: It's just its name; it doesn't actually create a storage space that you can access.

Regarding inventory space: While there is a maximum size to the inventory, it's suitably large to not be a worry for exploration. I think it tops out at 100 items, but I could be wrong there; either way, it's far more than you're ever likely to need. Enchantments have their own inventory too, completely separate from the normal inventory.

Welcome to AVWW :)

while in the settlement, there are two ways you can construct a building:
Go to the green ilari stone and press [E]
or alternatively press [V], go to Continent Status, then go to 'Guardian Power Scrolls', and finally click there.

If you are short on a material, or dont have any npc's in your settlement with the respective career at the respective level, you can right click on a building scroll to see what you are short.
To obtain Guardian Power Scrolls, you have to do missions (both worldmap visible missions, as secret missions).

All materials are automatically put in the settlement stockpile [C] and as such dont take up space in your inventory.
There is no limit on the amount of materials that i know of (there probably is one, but you'll either never hit it or by the time you do it wouldn't matter since you'd have such a huge surplus that you wouldnt know what to do with it anyhow).

You can't access buildings in the settlement at this moment, but thats alright since there isnt much use in doing so at the moment anyhow.
Spellgems can be remade at the spellcraft station at the level you have learned them at free of charge, learning them for the first time / upgrading them however does cost materials.
So you can drop those if you want to make room (not that you'd need it, i think you have around 100 slots of free room in your inventory, i dont even think there are that many usables to start with).

Enchants have their own inventory, 100 slots for storage, and 5 for wearing.
This storage can easily overflow, so ditch the ones you have better versions of / dont need.

To get rid of items in either inventory, just drag them out of the storage and drop them on the ground.

Did this answer your questions?

The two things that matter in the settlement are the spellgem crafting station (where you craft stuff) and the ilari stones (which heal you). Guardian powers aren't of that much interest to you yet I'd say.

Things I do in the settlement mostly consist of storm dashing from one end to the other and back again while trying to decide what to do next in-game.

But I suppose that's not very helpful. :P

OK, that all makes sense.  I guess that the inventory slots expand as you add items?  I saw just the two rows and it seemed really tight, so I was expecting a "village chest" like the Diablo-type games.  100 slots should be good, though, especially with the crating stuff going direct to the settlement.  The less inventory management swapping around, the better!

Thanks for your help, everyone!

It's like pages on iOS or Android phones, it shows one empty row in addition to all the rows you have something in while you're dragging an item around (and hide empty rows when you aren't moving things). If you put the item into that empty row then you will see a new empty row the next time you drag something.
