Rescuing Survivor Missions
« on: May 07, 2012, 01:50:23 pm »
Is there a trick to finding these missions easily?  I'm on T2 now, with no buildings, and I'm having extreme difficulty being able to use any scrolls that I find due to lack of survivors without the appropriate skills.  Even "Seek Survivor" scrolls are useless because they themselves require a certain profession my settlement is lacking.

I've found about three so far while hunting for resources deep deep in caves. I think you really just have to explore the map for a bit and they'll start to pop up.

Edit: Okay so that wasn't very helpful, it just occurred to me that you can now buy those Rescue Survivor scrolls at the shop now too.

The towers in the ice age regions for me always seem to have a high chance of spawning one.

Rescue missions are not too uncommon if you know where to look. Try really big buildings like pyramids, ice age buildings, and lava towers. Cave systems also tend to have some rescue missions.

Ice Age (or Thawing) buildings are a good place to start.  Also try Abandoned Towns; the general theme seems that the larger (i.e., more rooms) a building is, the better chance for stashes, secret missions, and rescue missions.  I prefer Ice Age/Thaw sites because IA NPCs have cold tolerance and usually come with good starting HP (and decent everything else).

I don't bother with pyramids anymore after getting the Bronze Age characters unlocked; just too much of a pain for too little reward.  But as mentioned, that's another option.

Thanks for the replies.  (Should of said Continent 2, not Tier 2)  Yes, I do remember actually seeing a few of these mission in big places, didn't know that had to do with it though.

I think what I should ask is, am I looking in areas where survivors would never appear?  (Example Bronze Age only appears in deserts.  Since I'm on the second continent, which has Bronze Age settlers, would they never appear?)

Or are they just completely random?  Cause dang, hours later I still haven't found a single one.  The missions yes, but they're either Fix missions or Perfection missions.

Pretty sure they're totally random.

They're just rare;  much more rare than the building/underground secret missions.

But if you're gonna find any, searching in specific buildings like ice age towers really does seem to produce them more than any other area.

Mate this has happened to me to and frankly I've lost the inclination to keep playing this game noting that I've put in 20 or so hours in this game now , beaten the first continent, played a bit of the second and HAVE NOT RESCUED A SINGLE NPC. Its not the way I explore, or anything I'm doing and frankly if its the RNG messing with me then its done a good job of annoying me out of playing this game.

This is despite having done 25+ secret missions and having searched just about every environment. To add insult to injury I have had 10's of "seek survivor" scrolls even before the shop patch but I cant use these scrolls of course because I don't have an Apothacry (sic) NPC.

I've seen few threads about this now and I really think its a bug...

Or they just need to up the rate of it a bit.

Or, they could handle it the way they did with buildings;  where the game has a tendancy to give you the buildings you need early on in a continent.

They could have secret missions have a tendancy to produce the apothacary NPC before giving you anything else (since that guy is pretty darned important).

The only other suggestion is to keep killing your current characters until you spawn one that happens to have that skill.

Here, a Mantis thingy about this issue:

Might help a bit, since that particular NPC is just a TAD important.

Thanks guys, I had the same issue so far. It was rather getting annoying. I looked in abandoned towns and villages, but to no avail. I thought that might be the best place to find survivors.

Larger buildings have a better chance of generating rescue missions. Caves work too, but due to bosses they take longer to search.

I would LOVE to see (expensive) seek *profession* survivor scrolls in the shop, that required no other professions to use.

Is currently easyer to start a sucicide cult then it is to find that first logger e.t.c.

Aye.

I dont have the patience for it, myself.  I dont really feel the game has much in the way of grinding normally, but getting that ONE character that's necessary to use the bloody scroll is annoying (I got lucky in my current game that I DID run into one in a mission) and does seem like grinding.   I hate doing the "kill characters off until the game gives you one that happens to have the profession" thing, but I would end up doing that rather than searching.

It's ALMOST as annoying as getting that bloody heatsuit;  at least with that though I KNOW exactly where to try looking.
